been caught out in blizzards before and goggles are worth their weight if needed. never thought of carrying and axe for running but ians posts on another thread made intresting and sensible reading. may look at some calf langth sealskins too, but wonder if they,d be too warm for running but i suppose deep snow would be cold so.......but all this said lets hope for some white stuff next week and make it belter of a day  although its been quite sunny all day in hull.

MWIS says "Intense Atlantic lows will continue to pass close to, mainly just north of Britain over the coming week to 10 days (and probably through to Christmas), giving almost constant upland gales, and at times reaching hurricane force."
Starting with a return to 100mph winds over the Lakes from Monday night...

Just back from a recce of the loop from Patterdale. Lots of snow on Sticks and Grisedale, microspikes worn on Sticks Pass but not needed elsewhere. Remains of 2 largish avalanches on the way up to Sticks Pass that had made it as far as the path...we had to clamber over the snow and ice rubble. Strong Westerly in our faces as we topped Sticks but in our backs on the return leg. Lots of people out skiing.
If it's like that next weekend it'll be a tough day.
