aye a good day and well done to all who got to the line start. cracking soup at the end with a cuppa made it all worth while ,almost. weather behaved its self too and gave some great views. sticks pass was the highlight of a top day out. a cock up/ laziness of not checking map on askham on the return cost us a chunk of time but otherwise went pretty much to plan.would have liked to keep high level a bit more but otherwise couldnt fault the event. kit check was thorough : have you got food, yes a sarnie, what sarnie you got, jam , ok enjoy your day. classic :-). it was good to meet nee bother and put a face to a name, and eat his xmas cake too.........
I'd like to give a big thanks to Joe and his team for a superb event. I've never run in the Lakes in winter before and it was a truly amazing experience. We were so lucky with the weather, couldn't have wished for better. We only needed to use our head torches for about half an hour at the end as it had been such a glorious day. I ran with Hank who was great, he definitely kept me going when I had a couple of low spells so thank you Hank! We got round in 9 hours 11 which considering we were aiming for about 10 is pretty good in my book. We seemed to get stronger as the race went on and finished in good shape, I think we paced it just right. Well done to everyone else who completed this challenge, it's definitely something I will remember for a long time to come. Great to see Fellgazelle and Toreador enroute, oh and Santa made an unscheduled stop at Swirls carpark, that was a welcome sight (thanks Ken, you're a star).
Great Photos thanks now i can bore my family with the photos as well lol:w00t:
It was a grand day out! As Mrs Stagger says, we seemed to pace it just right and finished in good spirits, as we'd been the whole day. Heavy going over Sticks Pass, but I think generally the conditons were pretty good. Some really amazing views as the skies cleared later on in the day and it was a real pleasue to be out there running. Big thanks to Joe and his team for a low-key but really well organised event, especially the bloke at the check on the way up to Sticks Pass... it was Arctic in the wind up there! Nice to meet some forumites along the way too.
The white out over Sticks was definitely the highlight for me, followed closely by the section past Grisedale Tarn. The lowlight was when the wheels fell off on the track through the forest above Thirlmere, I just wanted to sit down and go to sleep. Some pasty and painkillers kept me going until we turned uphill again and everything suddenly seemed much easier. After that it was all enjoyable again until I lost concentration right at the end and we went for an unplanned detour![]()
