    Re: Today's poet

I really enjoyed jabberwocky again! and the filing clark's love song...

well...the tree is down, the xmas cake all eaten and a month of abstinence awaits...sigh...aw well nowt like a bit of romance to cheer the post xmas mind...

    The Kiss
    Steven Dunn

She pressed her lips to mind.
    — A typo

How many years I must have yearned
    for someone's lips against mind.
    Pheromones, newly born, were floating
between us. There was hardly any air.

She kissed me again, reaching that place
that sends messages to toes and fingertips,
then all the way to something like home.
Some music was playing on its own.

Nothing like a woman who knows
to kiss the right thing at the right time,
then kisses the things she's missed.
How had I ever settled for less?

I was thinking this is intelligence,
    this is the wisest tongue
since the Oracle got into a Greek's ear,
    speaking sense. It's the Good,
defining itself. I was out of my mind.
She was in. We married as soon as we could.

    The Stolen Branch

In the night we shall go in
    to steal
    a flowering branch

We shall climb over the wall
in the darkness of the alien garden,
    two shadows in the shadow

    Winter is not yet gone,
    and the apple tree appears
    suddenly changed
into a cascade of fragrant stars

In the night we shall go in
    up to its trembling firmament,
and your little hands and mine
    will steal the stars

    And silently,
    to our house,
in the night and the shadow,
    with your steps will enter
    perfume's silent step
    and with starry feet
    the clear body of spring

Alone in the night, will it always be this way,
    Peacefull yet lonely, conflicting, confusing,
I have myself, it's enough, still got room for everyone else

Still penning the occasional poem about fell running.
Here's one I wrote that recalls Kinabalu (in 2010). The poem is a 'villanelle', where the first and third lines alternately repeat throughout and then come together at the end.

    Kinabalu

Your granite plateau peaks defy me still
The climbathon, a reckless race to try?
Mountain of the dead don't break my will

The rafflesia flourish in the trill
Through leafy glade the watchful monkeys spy
Your granite plateau peaks defy me still

I've climbed through yorkshire fell and lakeland hill
but this a bridge too far, a ridge too high?
Mountain of the dead don't break my will

A fault of ice and magma fury spill
where jungle fern unfurls into the sky
Your granite plateau peaks defy me still

Limbs succumb to creeping cramp's tendrils
    Intoxicating air in short supply
Mountain of the dead don't break my will

A flash of colour through the mist, the thrill!
    Killian descending, watch him fly!
Your granite plateau peaks defy me still
Mountain of the dead won't break my will.

    Why.

    Why summon this pulmonary fire?
Why submit to the lactates' burn?
Why the struggle to reach ever higher?
Why the fight with heather and fern?

Why, to see the other side of that oft tossed coin,
The washing away of all worldy cares
In the plunge, the battle and the chase.
And, for one brief moment, to reach out and touch
    Our own personal God,
    Whatever that may be.

    Thanks Freckle.
Because I just 'free form' and write it down as it comes into my head, please permit me to amend . Its a living thing ya know!

Why the struggle to reach ever higher?
Why the fight with heather and fern?

Why, to see the other side of that oft tossed coin,
To celebrate the joy of running free,
In the plunge, the battle and the chase.
And, for one brief moment, to reach out and touch
    Our own personal God,
    Whatever that may be.
