Just a note to say a big thanks to everyone who stayed to try to help when I stupidly got my (4WD) van bogged down after the finish. I was attempting a semi-circular outflanking manoevre to go around some cars parked by the road and get back onto tarmac. Despite the rushes (denoting BOG!) I wrongly assumed the ground would be frozen solid (after all, the fell had seemed pretty firm/solid all the way round in the race) but it was't and I quickly went in up to the axles on one side.

Despite stalwart efforts by Grifter and others, including an attempt to tow it out with another 4x4 it was well stuck and I had to enlist help from the farmer at Whins, just up the road. Once he'd coupled up his tractor, the van popped out like a cork from a bottle!

I won't be so overconfident of the abilities of 4WD in future, though in the van's defence I have to say it might have made a better fist of it if the diff-locks were working... As for the race itself... least said, soonest mended...

Really enjoyed the race and benefitted from wearing microspikes. I think that about half a dozen of us wore microspikes including wendy dodds. Everyone else descended on thier backsides but may have actually been faster.

Didn't see anyone else in Duo after the race!

I was there this time last year. Probably the coldest I've ever been. Great little race, deceptively hard I thought. Can't believe a year's passed!

Hope it was a great day.

Glad to hear you made it off the fell - felt a little guilty leaving you still stuck, although I was one of the ones trying to help you push the vehicle.

Looking at the photo in the later post, is that a VW Type 25 Synchro? Is it a Westfalia? Are you aware of its potential high value?

Yes, it's a Syncro (no 'h'). Not a Westy, it was a Devon minibus (converted from a Transporter van) more recently converted to a basic camper by me. I know it is potentially rare/valuable but it is irreplaceable. Nothing has been made since that could adequately replace it!
