    Re: Facebook Friends

I must confess to actually liking Facebook. I find it an incredibly useful tool to annoy people with lots of lovely photos from the Pyrenees!

Feel free to 'like' 'Pyrenees Haven' then you too can be bombarded with lots of lovely photos and news from the Pyrenees!

Hehe. Maybe the pathologically self-absorbed narcissists get a kick out of thinking they're being stalked.

I am with Dom and Stolly, it is only as 'invasive' as you want it to be... I get no ads or anything I don't want, just updates from friends only. I also have a rule that I don't actualy 'friend' people on FB unless I have met them... There are a few exceptions, largely a few FRA forumites who friended me when I first apeared on FB...

Will you believe it if I say I initially only signed on to play Scrabble with Dom???

I have the same rule too Han which works well, i felt a bit mean turning down a few FB requests from people I hadn't met but when I have photos of my kids on there I think it is entirely reasonable. I quite like FB especially some of the really great photography on there tho I do think there are down sides to it as well, eg social comparison and wasting hours (if not careful) ..however i also detest FB "snobbery" as effectively I think it can join up people who for whatever reason (in my case childcare issues) means that they can't just pop out when they want to. It has also enabled me to keep up with folk who have moved away, some as far as Oz :-)

Yeah, I use it largely to stay in touch with faraway friends and the South Wales cycling scene...

I live quite remotely and have no mobile phone reception where I live or work, so tend to have it on for its chat function largely.

    Re: Facebook Friends

I don't indulge in any social networking sites, despite several requests from clubmates and other friends - I reckon that I waste enough time on this here forum. Also, I'm a staunch advocate of doing real things with real people, here and now in real time.
What I regard as the classic 'anti' anecdote :- A work mate was contacted by a guy who was requesting that my colleague became his ?3477th? 'friend' on FaceBook. "What the heck." thought my colleague, "That guy was the school bully. He made my life 'hell on earth' and I have not seen him since leaving school ... But go on, let bygones be bygones. I'll become one of his zillion 'friends' on FaceBook."
Lo and behold, a few weeks later my colleague was walking down his local high street when he espied the one-time school bully, whom he had not seen for 25 years, walking towards him. My colleague waved and shouted a greeting. The one-time school bully just blanked my colleague and walked straight past!

Yea W.D. i can believe that ! I think a lot of people befriend you so they have a greater audience to brag too or whatever.I know one guy who wanted me to be his friend who i hardly new,he was always posting a link to his blogspot !!
I reckon some people that are on F.B,Twitter and a few more forums that jump on to view the sites at every possible chance realise they are addicted and wasting so much time that they just have a clear out and vanish, ive done a bit of that myself !All i can think is if your a big user of these forums, you must have a lot of spare time.I have been guilty in the past of jumping on a forum and spending an hour on it and thinking when i logged off,i have achieved nothing,it was a waste of time. The way for me was,use it on an evening when EVERYTHING IS DONE.Oh s**t i posted this morning !!
