Blooming cars, backs, ankles, stress fractures, colds, etc! trying to spoil our fun. My back will be fine, I'm sure. It really does feel ok when I'm running, its just when I try and bend down, tie my laces, put socks on etc I'm pretty sure that whatever is out of place, will click back into place or something before Friday anyway. Is your car pink?

Just to add my two penn'orth, I'd definitely stick to the southern wall. Even in the dark it's a bit easier to follow - if you start going downhill to your right, you're going off course and need to concentrate! You'll reach a stile that has (or did have) a blue cup tied to it, then it's down and over a gully and onto the open bit where you'll be looking for the check point.
The old route used to go over that stile but it's out of bounds now, and obviously the checkpoint moved down from the trig to it's new location.

If you cross the stile and follow the wall up you pass another stile on the left. Eleven fence posts past that stile is a faint, runnable, double track that contours around to the new checkpoint.

I'd appreciate some thoughts on leaving the new Middle Tongue checkpoint. Last year our group just straight lined it on a bearing, bashing over everything in the dark, eventually picking up the wall to the south of the checkpoint. Are there any options?

My plan is to head north easterly from the checkpoint passing above the wall that disects the hillside and then either turn slightly more easterly from there or carry on till the west to east fence line above, depending on the going under foot. Ideally I'll then be hooking straight east just after South Grain Tarn to get to the Hell Gap CP. Its a plan that will be pretty easy in clear conditions and a bit/a lot tougher in fog and/or after dark

I'll be staying south of the bad ground and aiming for the good track alongside the wall (through the gate) at 924807.

You're dropping so fast that the waiting list for places has now been cleared, in fact there might even be a couple of places available. I'm going to be very popular with the entries officer for this (Not!)

Anyone who has dropped out would be welcome to lend a hand behind the scenes, volunteers are always needed somewhere at HQ. You might even enjoy seeing how it all fits together, like Nick did a couple of years ago.
