    Think I'd agree with the don't run camp it does look very swollen still and wkend could bugger your summer up if it all went wrong for you. I can understand your reluctance to pull out but looking at a bigger picture ? As said earlier can you afford to miss who knows how much time afterwards and would you want a dnf next to your name ? But only you can the descion karen.

    Ever since my entry was confirmed, nearly every part of me has started to complain, nothing as serious as the above pics, perhaps this is all part of pre Fellsman nerves.Seriously though if your are injured to that extent, take it easy.

    On another subject,do any of you guys out there use poles?Might be useful for testing the depth of bog!

    Many thanks to every one for all the useful tips, banter, etc. As you've guessed this my first Fellsman, see you at the start.

    Hi Dave, I think it might be Fellsman virginitis...I have been suffering from it too. As soon as I started training seriously, I got problems from an old knee injury, then I got shinsplints from running in the snow and now I've got a bad back but luckily that is better when I'm running. I don't use poles, I'd only trip up over them if I did. Don't know about anyone else here. See you Saturday!

    I use a single pole when I did it, and I'm not sure I'd have finished without it. Stayed on my sack until somewhere after Fleet Moss I think. Quite a few others were using poles too.

And anyone who suggests you should give it a go is also a fool. It's in a weakened state already and it wouldn't take much to turn it badly again (no matter how much strapping you put on it) which will put you out of action for even longer than if you are SENSIBLE now, and let it heal. (just my 2p worth, but it's your decision).

    I agree with Dog Breath Karen, I folded my ankle badly a couple of weeks before the 3 Peaks race last year. Had to walk with a stick for the first few days. Was absolutely gutted and very, very tempted to have a go anyway but in the end faced up to the fact that I'd have experienced one of the worst runs of my life - and that route is barely 25 miles. I reckon you should accept the situation and work on your recovery plan. Good luck!

    The MWIS weather forecast for Saturday is looking pretty good:

    How windy? -> East or northeasterly, 20 to locally 30 with gusts 40mph near major north to south ridges

    Effect of wind? -> Mostly small, but significant buffeting in places, not necessarily higher areas

    How wet? -> Showers. A few bursts of showery rain, mainly morning

    Cloud on hills? -> Clearing. Cloud widespread on higher areas in morning, base 350 to 600m, but will gradually lift, with cloud only rarely on higher summits after midday

    Chance of cloud free summits? -> 70%

    Sunshine and air clarity? -> Bursts of sunshine, mainly western hills. Haze gradually lifting as the air becoming increasingly clear

    Temperature at 600m? -> 2 rising to 4C

    And in the valleys? -> Will reach 9 or 10C in the afternoon

    I'm planning on wearing a buff for a hat; has anyone done this in the past and were the organisers happy with that?
    I know, I should ask them but, I think they're probably busy enough!

    Totally agree Erich, good avice, it was very hard for me to accept the orthopods advice re no running for 6 weeks but deep down I knew I had to comply. I chased my 3 year old for about 40 yards yesterday and felt OK but about 10 mins after the area where the compression fracture is starting aching like mad. No way I could handle 62 miles on that knee, there's always next year...
