    Re: Three Peaks Fell Race

I thought the wind this year was a lot less strong than last year, but it was more gusty and there were more sections where the wind was in your face.

Remember that last year, it was almost impossible to stand up straight, never mind run with the wind coming across you going up Whernside. I couldn't stay on the side of the path I was trying to. This year I had no problems.

I was taking off my hat and gloves/putting them back on again more times than I could count! The temperature difference between the peaks and the valleys was amazing (especially coming off PYG).

Personally, I am still bouncing off the walls! 41mins quicker than last year, although a huge chunk of that was accounted for the fact that last year I was vomiting all the way up Ingleborough. This year, I struggled on the same peak (especially the run-off - with cramp after running London last week), but wasn't ill this year, so enjoyed it a great deal more!

Club mate had an even better run - taking 28mins off his time last year to go sub-4. An absolutely stunning run!

Well done everyone today, some excellent times given the conditions. Fantastic run from Pattinson the 3peaks machine. I ran most of the course with him a few weeks ago and he's a beast on the climbs.

I gather the air ambulance was for a fellsman competitor with a suspected ankle fracture so fingers crossed its not too major.

I'll be there next year no doubt for a good crack at it.

Oh, and according to @Fellrunninbrief the runner taken off Whernside by the air ambulance was doing the Fellsman - suspected broken leg unfortunately

Cave rescue incident report says ankle injury. Hopefully it's not too serious

Well I had a shocker, some 10 mins down on last year and can't really think of a reason why. Legs felt wrecked afterwards.
Felt like I was running OK until I fell in that maneating bog on Whernside and felt a slight pull in the right calf which began to cramp up a little on the descent, but other than that was just slow!

Thanks to all involved with marshalling and race organisation, superbly organised as usual

Fellsman bus driver said it was ligaments rather than a break - but that can be as bad.
I saw the guy was being looked after and was being kept warm in a bivvy bag.
Lots of people around to help.
If you're going to sustain an injury on Whernside, that's the perfect moment to do it: help was available from all quarters.

I wasn't saying that was strange.. never heard of her.. but that means nothing.. but just that you had class runners like Owens well off.. overall the top 10 were very similar to last year.. and last year was a qualifier for almost all home nations.. but I'd have finished lower down I think this year.. think I was 3:16 and 14th..something like that..

But the three peaks is like that for strange results.. I beat Jebby last year.. and Andy Peace.. you always get a few 'scalps'.. but you can't count them as you know they went for it and it didn't come off.. its just strange seeing top runners so far down or off their pace.. the three peaks seems to do that more than any other.. and tbh I think Mouncey's 3:25? was poor for him. I've never beaten him before.. and possibly would have today.. Rich another one.. I reckon both are sub 3:10 runners.. they have pace I don't have..

Last year was strange conditions, but wind in your face for one section means wind at your back in others.. like Snowdonia Marathon.. like last year.. so its hard to work out what the net effect was...

I must admit I put plenty of layers on with hat & gloves. I was amazed at how many runners were wearing just vests !
