    Ear Tingle

It's not often these days that I get that exciting 'ear tingle' when you hear some new music that really catches your interest.
Praise be to radio 6 for serving up 'Spitfire' by public service broadcasting. Ace!

AND, I thought I was the only person on the planet who 'got' Swansway. But no, No lesser person than Ian Rankin plumped for their track 'Soul Train' on his R6 interview last week.

Thank goodness for R6 salvation from R2!

Ian Rankin clearly has excellent taste in music. He also lists The Falls, by the greatest band ever - The Mutton Birds as his alltime favourite lyric.

Real 'ear tingle' moments are, or should be, quite rare. You know, something that really sticks up above all the sound washing in and out of your ears on a day to day basis. Something that stops you and forces you to listen.
    Some of mine have been:
The Who - Join Together. Got me 'into' music.
Pink Floyd - On the Run. The start of a lifelong fanhood and also an interest in electronica.
David Bowie - Starman. Not just the song but THAT appearance on TOTP. Life was never the same again.
Donna Summer - I Feel Love. A fantastic mix of genres.
Crystal Method - Born Too Slow.
    Nick Drake - Riverman.
Steve Miller Band - Macho City. Late night radio listening
Waking Aida - Nothing In Me Disturbs a Thing

Most of the time at work someone has that horrendous Kiss FM on. I don't like hip hop and RnB, i really don't like it consistently round and round again, and i hate the way the propa gangsta presenters make up words as they go along like giwfrind and arks. For example, "Can you arks your giwfrind..." That isn't an accent local to anywhere, it's just lazy speech, it's got to the stage where i'm relieved to hear Steve Wright- far too far!

Mr B, if you want proper music, mainstream pap radio isn't the place to listen. I feel sorry for those like you who have no choice in the matter. The accent you refer to will be the trendy ethnic one that replaced Cockney 2 or 3 decades ago.

At the moment I do be enjoying James Last and his orchestra. You'll never get that on the radio.

Sorry Wheeze but yours didn't light my candle. It takes all sorts. The world would be a boring place otherwise.

No, well that's the thing. It's one of those personal things, but quite invigorating when you get in on something that goes viral.
