Calderdale Way Relay

I fully understand and accept the preference and arguments for December. However for those with short memories or who can't be bothered to look back through the thread, it's a simple judgment - risk of cancellation due to weather v. potential significant cost of cancellation. The same consideration applies to the PBR.

So lets see, a fell race with a date in Winter that is unluckly hit by bad weather should think about changing to a mid-year date? Er, thats Winter Hill, Edale, Ogden moor, and a dozen other races looking for a nice warm spot. Jez...thinkin about it I've run 3peaks with snow on the high tops....let move it to July then. Im gona come clean now and say the DNF post was mine but not on my computer ( I couldn't Remember my pass-word).
Don't get me wrong, I love the Calder relay to bits & Halifax do a great job puttin it on.....but May? sorry there's to much else on.

Those of you who want a relay in Dec, there was one organised by KCAC, 23 teams ran, Bingley 1st, Wharfedale 2nd, Bingley 3rd and Baildon 4th. Was not meant as a 'rival' to CWR once that had been moved but a low key fun off road relay event, this year on Dec 12th.Teams of 8, most people appeared to enjoy the short legs (about 32miles in total), me and little biara were marshals at one of the changeovers, good positioning right by the pub.....
And for those who don't want to run a few people did the sportive version......

Ditto here. Thoroughly enjoyed running with someone new, and being same pace made it extra special. This race will just get better and better.

Hi Clive, Jason here - Happy to discuss this at least for a bit longer. Running with someone new at the same pace has got nothing to with December or May, but effective team selection. The statement that the race will get better and better is precisely the point that us December advocates are making - and we fear it won't.

Oh and for those of you with opinion on December, I really really won't stop any of you trying to organise it, putting your money where your mouths are so to speak. I'm sure that Halifax won't get in the way of you all learning just how easy it is nowadays with insurance etc to sort the whole race out for December, maybe it could be an elite CW, so to speak. So please go ahead someone, c'mon you do seem quite passionate about it.
Oh and thx Halifax for sorting out this year, much appreciated, I will see you (and those with toys still in prams perhaps) next year.

Again you are preaching to the converted - I've been a race organiser and I state my rights to make a statement about preferring December without accusations of toys and prams. An elite CW is not the point at all. I used to really enjoy seeing Jones, Brownlees, Abyu, Burns etc running over my training ground alongside e.g. the 7 teams that Stainland entered one year.

For the final time - I appreciate and thank Halifax Harriers for their organisation, In fact I know a few of them and I wouldn't want to criticise them in any way. Also Wharfedale would have had a competitive team even in December - they are a club on the rise and well done to them. When the race was moved to May I did fear that it would lose some of its status which is borne out by times and team numbers.

In the end though, it's down to Halifax Harriers and if its May as I'm sure it will be then hopefully it won't clash with champs races and it gets well supported.

Why - Because it's fun.
I am never going to win.
Why - Because I'n not fast enough.
So, for all those who enjoy this race whenever it takes place, see you next year, or this if it's in December.
And for all of you who want to run other races when this race is scheduled, enjoy and good luck.
Oh, and if I'm ever unable to run through injury then I will gladly stand at some checkpoint to marshall for all who run, whether there be 10 teams or 100.

Running a shorter race in winter is quite a different affair to running a huge relay event, clearly the cancellation cost Halifax a great deal of funds and they as a club can't risk a loss like that due to weather, alongside the previously mentioned comments about marshalling in poor conditions for several hours.

I never ran it in December, and I would have liked to try because it sounds great, but you don't always get what you want. I enjoyed it in may, and will more than likely still run that over the Leeds half or similar. I can understand why people want it back in December but it doesn't look as though that's on the cards. The organisers may reconsider the date to avoid clashes, but that's entirely up to them.

It seems a shame for everyone to get upset over the race, would everyone prefer that it had been cancelled entirely?

Don't think I was moaning. Halifax - Dont' call it off, ever. I love doing this relay.
I love leg 1,2,3,4,5,6. In fact I think it might be time for me to run the whole route some time soon!
Now when shall I do it. Dec, May....who gives a rats...I'll just do it when I want too....but not in May cause I want to run the relay!

Well said fb- a damn good event whatever date its held on, although next time I think a leg with an uphill start may be needed ;-)
