There have been problems during a recent large-scale running race in Coniston. Please be specially considerate about parking and noise at night.
And have a great time - the Lakeland 50 & 100 are superb experiences!

There was a local chap complaining about folk cheering people in at about 2am last year, he was making more noise than anyone else. It was his home though and he did say kids couldn't sleep so fair point. Hard to keep everyone happy. I promise I won't be making any noise if I finish, only a few silent whoops and thank feck for that:wink:
I'll come and support in Ambleside outside Lakes Runner - you crazy people!
Yes it was noisy last year but a great crowd cheering people in. Will try to be quiet this year. I remember a couple of years back there was a chap got very annoyed around Langdale area so will try keep quiet around there too (I'll try not to take so blooming long to do it this year too - not being still going early in the morning might help).
What time is everyone aiming to complete.
Personally my primary goal is to complete the event and If I achieve a time of 32 - 35 hrs, then even better.
Only four sleeps to go Ladies & Gents, the very best of luck to everyone.
I'd have though most people off here, reasonably sensible and (at least!) moderately trained up, would easily get under 34 hours. I went and supported my mate doing West Highland Way Race and he did 34 hours or so with minimal training and little in the way of off road racing/running experience. The final cut-off for WHW is 35 hours!. Come on people we want to be seeing sub 30's for everyone!!
I'll be going well if I get near to 30hrs. I did it in 2009 having done a comfortable BG in 2008 in 23.30 hrs. It took me 37hrs! (I think its much harder than WHW) Mind you, I was wandering along talking for quite a bit of it and was out for so long I forgot it was a race - got into a group who were walking and didn't push on. If you see a fat sweating idiot with 'RACE' written on his hand in marker pen (my psychological halfway tactic) you will know its me. Good luck everyone.
Hope no-one minds me replying on here (im a mere 50 mile contender) - very excited but now very nervous! This years training and ultra races have gone fantastically well as a newby to this distance, but then disaster struck 4 weeks ago and i have developed a mystery pain in my hip and pelvis which i have been having treatment on - timing or what!! anyway the longest run i have done is 8 miles and even that was a stagger. For me now i will just be powerwalking round and enjoying the views, if there is no pain - be a bleeding miracle- i will jog the downhills. i will also be replacing gels with codeine pills, maximum strength! Moan over - it will be a great day and there will be many new people to meet and chat too.
If only it was that easy. Last year George ( The master ) and I were going along fine and on for sub 29 hrs until we reached Haweswater. ( 75m ) The wheels came off big style and I still don,t really know why. We stumbled our way back to Tilberthwaite and then took 2 hours to do the last 3.5miles. It was not a pretty site. we made it though in 31 hours 59 mins ( the rule was we were going round come what may ).
Under estimate it at your peril. The West Highland way it is not.
I have had to with draw from this year as I am carrying an injury.......gutted
Will is Right. We didnt treat it as a race either and spent far to much time at check points. If you want to go sub 30hrs keep moving.
