I have another approach for the dogs that lollop all over you and get underfoot or run along with you barking whilst the owner mumbles about them just being friendly et al. I keep running but entice the dog to run with me and see how far away it will go. I bet that makes them wonder how well "under control" it is :sneaky:

So dogs wearing headtorches would be a surefire winner for the worn threadbare topic???

A whole pack of them would look good on the hill at night!

I do that... and not just once did the dog(s) actually come with me, totally out of control of the owner!!! Needless to say they didn't like it! That teaches them to keep their dogs on a lead!

I was accompanied by a very charming king charles spaniel for about 300 yards towards the summit of Shining Tor a few months back. Its owners were pretty chilled about it, and I knew I was doubling back once I got to the summit. That was a nice example of dogs tagging along.

    Here's another one...

I was running in France while on holiday earlier in the year and ran past a man who very responsibly held his large hound (not sure of the breed) out of the way as I ran past. About 5 minutes later, the dog had tracked me down and very excitedly ensured I couldn't run any further by bumping into me whenever I tried to start running again. Despite my shouts of "non", this dog didn't pay any attention. He was so happy with himself at having tracked me down that he did that thing that dogs sometime do where they run in tight circles until they wipe out with the centrigufal force, then repeat. After a few minutes of me thinking what I should do and trying in vain to calm this daft animal, the owner ran along the track looking very tired and very relieved. I smiled and jogged off to leave him catching and then [cover your eyes, dog lovers] beating his dog.

I'm sick of seeing this comment. I too blame the owner more than the dog, but it's not usually the owner that I'm worried about.

Ever since I was dragged off my bike by some chav's thug dog I quite happily throw stones or swing a kick at any dog that so much as invades my personal space. I'm going to investigate one of those dog scarer things.

I blame the people being chased - cowards the lot of them.

This is getting as good as the last time. I am waiting for the chap that has a night stick to whack people who get bitten by his dog, to come along and start getting all agressive.
