Disqualified....Victoria seemed honest and magnamonous (sp) in interview just now. Guess it's like changing baton outside the box in the Sprint relays.
VP was surprisingly phlegmatic - thought she woudl have been much more angry or upset.
It's just like passing the baton outside the prescribed area in running relays.
But apparently it is not usually enforced quite so strictly? Maybe Hanneke can verify that.
From what I understand there is a line, not a zone, that they they are not allowed to pass before, but they are going so fast they cannot see it until it is much too late, and there is no warning on the track itself that they are getting near it - there was talk of a sponge or cone being placed at the side of the track. If it was simply a changeover zone marked at both ends like a 4x100 relay surely they would have said so.
from one report online:
Rob Hayles, Double Olympic medallist and BBC cycling commentator at the Velodrome explained: 'I believe it was Victoria Pendleton taking over too early.
'There are two points on the straight, and like athletics where you have to hand over the baton, you have to change over within a certain place on the track.
'Vicky must not take over before a certain point or after a certain point and they have changed over outside the allocated area on the track.'
