been stampeded 3 times by cows for no reason. i was bought up on a game and diary farm and know how to handle animals but on three occasions it didnt matter what i did they had just got the red mist and werent stoppping for anything. two occasions it was just young animals not used to being handled and another was just a herd gone mad.

I really don't know about the confidence as I don't have any where cows are concerned. I've been know to do a few miles detour rather than go through a cow field (with or without young) if I don't have at least 3 escape options.
Think its safe to say I'm a right scaredy cat.
I can't stand being around them either. I always thought it was a case of, walk calmly and keep yourself to yourself and you'll be ok, but once I was walking through a field with my then-pregnant girlfriend and a herd started slowly walking towards us. Didn't think too much of it, but as they got closer they started getting twitchy and when I looked behind me they were jumping and all sorts. Did the usual shouting and arm waving and we took evasive action over a wall! Since then I've been very wary.

I altered my route on a run this morning because a herd were by a gate and when I went to go through they started jumping etc. Not a fan of the blighters.

I was running through a field with 5 or 6 young beef cows in it today. Twice they ran after me and twice they backed up as soon as i stopped and squared up to the lead beast. Had i tried to show them a clean pair of heels i'd probably be typing this from A&E, they could have trampled me at any moment had i not forced them to believe they were actually the ones in danger not me.

I'm beginning to see them as a training aid, forcing me to sprint every time the buggers see my dog. Last time was wednesday, up a steep field near Arncliffe. Made it to the stile about 15 feet in front of 'em.
Having said that, I wouldn't normally even think about running up that steep field so it just shows what you can do when you have to!

Second run since february, i'm getting medial problems now though due to the alteration in kneecap tracking. Physio was stunned, never seen it occur before, i'm not out of the woods yet.

Look like the cows have got one back on us runners, as it looks like the Chelmorton Chase is off this year, maybe for good, as the cows got spooked last year by runners & the farmer raised a bill for damages putting a shaddow on this event ever been run again.

I used to hate cows (I mean really hate) however, since running prett regularly with the ones that live on Town Moor in Newcastle, I have become accustomed to them. Though I did tell myself they couldn't run on concrete, which I've since found to be a load of old tosh!

I took a detour today as my way was blocked (on the Caldedale Way in Stod Fold) by some young bullocks and some cows. Last year I'd have run straight past them...this year, having read this thread (particularly the bit about not making it out of resus), I decided to up my mileage instead.
