Good advice MB - I use this as a training run. Lures you in to a false sense of security and even knowing that I still haven't enjoyed the descent to CP4. The 'direct' descent off Winder is great... if you have any strength left.
Would add that I found 212s were perfect for running it last week BUT the Howgill Buzzard was out in force near Castley (CP2). 10 mins of ducking and being - let's be polite - downright concerned that I would have to change my underwear before the finish - but at least tomorrow there'll be safety in numbers. The trod that skirts around Calders summit has slipped a little during the last month's rainfall but is still one of my favourite paths, but not as easy to find once the clag sets in...
