I thought I would give this a try tomorrow. Does anybody know if there are any cutoff times for any of the checkpoints?

I don't think there are any, it's a relatively short race, though one of the hardest in the calendar! I suppose they could time you out at Grizedale Tarn, but I'm sure it wouldn't be particularly tight.

I know they had cut offs last year, due to the bad weather and I'm sure it was said they will be keeping them in, the cut off was at Grisedale Tarn

Thanks that would seem a logical place to have it.

    Yes, a great photo indeed.

Just a shame that it didn't capture the mountain bikes too!
What WERE they doing up there?!

Actually, I know what they were doing up there (five mountain bikes and their non-riders on Swirral Edge): as I'd approached them I said: "Now why didn't I think of bringing my bike? How silly of me!" To which one of them sheepishly admitted: "We didn't mean to come up here. We took the wrong route!"

They were already quite a way up the Edge and I wondered if they'd carry on to the top as it wasn't very far. I wouldn't have fancied it though - scrambling up damp rock was OK with both hands free, but carrying a mountain bike?!

Like I said to a fellow runner: "I've always thought the term 'mountain bike' was a bit of an oxymoron. But maybe that's just 'cos I scare easily." "That's why you like fell running," came the reply - I didn't argue.
