Suddenly I'm not quite so sad I can't do it this year...

Now bring it on if you please.

Updated Tracklogs maps are printed out. Don't tell anyone but the total distance comes out at 37 miles.
The GPS trace from my recce said 37.8 miles, but I'll concede we might have taken a few corners a bit wide

You're right, the forecast is poop. Ah well, they have it worse at sea (just).

Currently sat in an office about 3 miles from Askham. Cloudy outside and it's looking pretty dark... not quite headtorch time yet, but not far off. I'm thinking anything more than a wee bit over 8 hours running and a headtorch will be needed at one end or the other (of the run that is).

Re. the weather, MWIS have just popped out their first forecast for Saturday and it's looking... well, how to put this? Shit.

    40-50mph winds, gusting 80
    Rain (of the persistent variety)
    0c at 700m

The only plus is might be marginally less terrible early on. And the forecast may yet change!

What's so shit about that forecast Hank? Sounds great to me.
To paraphrase the ad: "There's no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong attitude"

Thanks. I'll have to remind myself of that at frequent intervals

Monsoon conditions in North Yorkshire this morning.

    The rain. And the wind.

Yeah, there's no point in worrying too much about it... just get on and run. Doesn't stop the weather being shit though.

    Re: Tour de Helvellyn

I’ve just bumped into some guys who’d been on Helvellyn today.
    They report:
snow line 700m, quite hard in places, thigh deep in drifts very occasionally.
They didn’t take crampons nor did they feel they would have benefited from them if they had.
They encountered no ice at all.
Make of that what you will!
