Iain - It will take us City fans some time to come down from the emotional high of winning the league. It wasn't just an end to a 44-year wait for most of us, it was like a sort of redemption and a justification for those of us who had stayed loyal through all those years, which let's be honest were made even more difficult for us as most of them were spent in the shadows of you lot. Do you honestly think Uniteds fan base would have stayed as loyal through so many lean years? Remember when you were crowned European champions in Barcelona we were playing in the third tier of English football.

    Not at all..

Look at how Hulls attendances dropped after they went down.. all fans have glory supporters..

I think United would continue to get 30+ k.. yeah for sure..

14 years ago... after many 100's and 100's of millions.. I don't begrudge you that at all.. I just laugh at the plucky little City comments..

I supported City when they were playing against gillingham.. I wanted them back in the PL..

Listening to you its like Bradford are now doing a City...

The fans who make me laugh the most though are the true Scouse fans.. 'I'm a true fan.. I'm from Surrey and I've supported Liverpool for 25 years since 1987.. I'm no glory supporter'

So you chose to support them when they were the best team in the country...

Football clubs have cycles of success, it is why Fergie deserves such credit as he has built team after team after team..

Credit for sticking with City.. I don't think many fans change their clubs*.. as I've said many times your club is picked for you.. some of us were just lucky.. But no doubt United will again go through bad times.. Look at Rangers at the moment.. its just a journey. TBF I'd rather follow a team like City who have at least packed your seasons with drama than a Villa.. a team who just sit in the premiership and offer their fans little drama..

Stopping going to games is another thing.. I watch Wednesday a bit with mates from sheffield.. the other year I plaid £26 or something idiotic to watch the most atrocious game against Brentford.. But the clubs have to soon realise that they can't charge those fees to watch dross..

I didn't think we'd get passed Spurs. They seemed up for it with the noises coming out of White Hart Lane! However I think City are there for the taking, might require a draw to take it back home but City do seem vulnerable at times! Fingers crossed!

(....waits for Danberts re-post when we losse 5-0!!)

    @IainR

Fully concur! I've always said I'd rather have followed Leeds, including the massive downs, than follow a team like Villa, whose season always finishes around February or March...mid-table, no risks taken! I'm even (...to a point!) glad Ridsdale attempted what he did, he went OTT in the end, too much of a fan and meglomaniac, but I don't really regret it all!.....not often at any rate!

Iain i'm struggling to articulate how i feel here - but in 1998 when you were all conquering, we were playing in the Third Division and our players were really struggling to adjust to playing at that level. I also think that we the fans were struggling with the idea that our club really had landed in the Third Division. I distinctly remember standing on Blackpool's Bloomfield Road when I first heard City fans sing our surreal song of disbelief:

We are not, we're not really here,
We are not, we're not really here
Just like the fans of the Invisible Man,
    We're not really here

When we won the league last season that song had real Pathos, it was truely emotional to hear it belting out at the Etihad. It meant absolutely nothing to the likes of Yaya Touré, Sergio Agüero, David Silva and Vincent Kompany but my god it meany something to us.

Me too Stagger. My Dad took us, I was only a nipper, I'd have been 13.

I think it was Trevor Cherry who scored the goal. There wasn't long left to play when you scored.....and i had my silk scarf stolen by one of your lot!!!

15 me. And sorry for the thief. More than their fair share of richard heads in them days.
Mind you I had to run on a couple of times at main road to get to the coach, only to crap my pants as the window went through followed by a volley bricks.

If the rapscallion from Leeds who took my City scarf from around my neck thay day has finished with it, I would appreciate its swift return next month. Washed first, if you don't mind. Thank you

Agree with you though Stagger, City had their share of cock-wombles in those days too and Maine Road must have been an intimidating place for away fans particularly for night games as it was surrounded by a maze of terraced houses and alleyways.
