I've been sticking to under 1200 calories a day and it's worked although off on the travels tomorrow and being good whilst only having pastries on offer as brekkie is going to be a big ask!!

    Stick with it peeps.... :-)
I have to agree Emmi - the only way I have successfully lost weight before, properly, is by being strict with my calorie intake! I used an app on my phone to track it - a written diary was just too much hard work.

    Well done

Interesting thread folks although not having read through all 800+ posts had anybody gone down the low carb high fat diet? I started out at x mas and have found race energy levels to be amazing, as a great by-product I have now lost 11lb to boot. Have to be honest though and admit that the transition to my current ketogenic state was hard but I now see it as a life style change. :-)

Yes! Although strict calorie counting I've switched to a 40:30:30 ration so reducing the carbs considerably and increasing the protein and good fats. It's not that easy is it? takes a bit of getting used to but I use an app and plot everything I've eaten it in it and it works it out for me!
Not noticed any race performances yet as only done the 1 this year so far and buggered my back up!

That's a shame about yr back. At the beginning I was limiting to approx 20-30grms of carbs a day but now I'm familiar with most foods I don't track anything; and yes I would argue it really is that easy. Cook with coconut oil, bake with ground almond flour so I still get to have my treats. As for race stuff I did the 21 mile trog at weekend without the need for mid race fuelling, just water and No bonking in sight ;-)

    Re: Overweight to Raceweight g

I appear to be averaging 1 LB a week loss so nothing drastic. I haven't had a beer for nearly 2 weeks now and have cut down on the bread and pasta. I did read somewhere you should not eat carbs on their own but always mix them with protein/fat so I make sure I have an egg in the morning with my toast and orange juice for example. For reasons unknown I always seem to run a bit better after scrambled eggs on toast than I do on porridge anyway ?

I have been flirting with the Paleo diet, high protein, high good fats, low carb, loads of fruit and veg’. I found my energy lacking for runs although they tell you that you need to stick with it for a few weeks and your body will adapt.

I am trying to easy myself into this, not sure I will go the full hog with it, maybe just change the way I eat to higher protein less carbs but not the full Paleo.

Well, as I've lost all desire to drink booze I guess I'll have to crack on with this weight loss shenanigans and stop stuffing my face with pie and chips. Funny business the inside of my head, best not to look too closely.

Good job really, just weighed in at 174lbs. Boom, at this rate I'll be able to do a truffle shuffle.

I know that if I went down the low carb higher propotion of protein I would probably loss more weight, but I dont eat much meat or fish (about once a week as I dont really like it, although quite like fish!) and getting enough protein is a problem anyway, any advice would be much appreciated.
