With my "ample time for reccies" rapidly running out.....
I suppose the flippin tops of Dodd Fell, Buckden Pike, Fleet Moss etc are all chest deep in snow now and for the foreseeable future?

I'd really appreciate an update on Thursday so I can decide whether it's worth going up for Good Friday.
    Many thanks.

    Re: Fellsman

We spent the weekend in Kettlewell and snow drifts were the main problem with getting about. It's 6 to 10 feet deep in some areas (or was on Sunday afternoon). Snow shoes (and ski-goggles) would have been a massive help

There's a photo on my blog showing the view over to Buckden Pike here from Moor End (above Starbotton on the climb over to Arncliffe) plus another showing typical conditions on the other side of the dale

Mark L, are you heading up to the Dales tomorrow? If you are can you let me know how you go/where. I am now planning a possible run up there on Tuesday next week?

Good Luck if you do go for it

    Re: Fellsman

I had intended on being up on the route over the Easter weekend and have abandoned the idea, access and snow is just too poor to make it a meaningful proposition. North Yorkshire council reports that the road to Fleet Moss is still closed and further West it looks just as bad.

I need to get worthwhile mileage and/or worthwhile training in. Since I'm not guaranteed to get either if I travel up, I've decided to stay local and go for training mileage. Maybe in a couple of weeks...

Snap- me to. Just broken up for easter and hoped to head out that way but if I cannot guarantee 28 miles and reasonable running I'll wait a few days. Might try some Bowland tops instead in the hope that the ground will still be frozen? and not the usual swampfest

I'm a little confused as to the location ofthe Middle Tongue check point. Is is at the Trig point with a spotheight of 643m?

Pretty much bang on the 600m contour line as I recall, well to the SW of that trig point.
