Yes I believe so Ian, although its hardcore rubble rather than paving. I suspect it will save 3 minutes or so as the distance is much the same but without the muddy drop down towards Sell Gill Pot.

I haven't been up PYG since the race last year where they took us a new route off the top.
But I don't remember following the wall as far.
Is the new route off the top of PYG revised again or is it just the map on the link has straightened out the lines a little.

Re: 3 Peaks Fell Race 2013

    Evening all,

I have got myself into a bit of kafuffle with my parents visiting York for my mum’s Birthday on the days around the 27th of April…

I've looked at train times that morning and the earliest train to get in to the station at Horton is at 0959...

I have put a message out to runners in Holmfirth (as this is who I run with) if they know of anyone travelling over from York.

To cut a long story short... Is there anybody willing in the Fell community who is travelling from and back to York? I'd be more than willing to share fuel costs!

Likewise if you see this post and know of anyone who may not check the internet as regularly but is more than happy to share a lift please point them in my direction you can reply on here or email me at [email protected]

    Many thanks,

    Craig

I would normally be driving but am without car that weekend, so am also on the lookout for a lift from York (can get train back so you don't need to hang around for me as I trundle in at around the 5 hour mark!) So, has anyone got a couple of spare seats in a York car?

I did 5.09 in 2008... 46 PYG and 2.00 Ribblehead....took me an age on the Whernside stretch which cost me with only about 3 mins to spare at Hill Inn where I stood around for 10 mins deciding whether or not to carry on! ha.
2011 I got exactly the same times but had to pack in at Ribblehead due to migraine symptoms. Confidence is low due to that but I really should get well under 5 hours this time hopefully.

So my advise would be to just steady up and down PYG, chug along to RH and aim to be something like 47 up PYG and 1:55 - 2:00 at RH and I think you will be on the money for a 4:45.

If I was you MG i'd just find WP at the start and follow him to the top of Ingleborough and take it from there, you'll not miss him on the start he'll be the one with about twenty layers of running gear on :w00t:

Re: 3 Peaks Fell Race 2013

I walked round on Saturday with a group(Bridge2Aid). Probably the best round I've ever had(and I've done around 50) views were tremendos, sky stunning, it was also the quietest, never seen it so peaceful and the most exciting......that climb up inglebugger OMG the head wall was banked out with hard neve. I saw few people back off it quite rightly and anumber at the top who didn't even give the descent a try. It was like climbing a gully in the lakes Awesome, the group loved it.

Bumped into quite a few recciers who I bade hellow to and chatted where possible. Hope the guy who was out with some wharfedale runners is ok. A few Abbey runners and a guy from Oldham who runs with P&B. Good to meet you all.

I found the new route below PYG to be quite good. much easier going despite the first little climb and certainly easier under foot.
