Anyone doing the Rhondda Rollercoaster? (May 11th) I did the 'Where Raven's dare' last year organised by the same southwalesldwa group and I enjoyed that so much I thought I would go down to South Wales again and do another one.

Barbondale today - a lovely 24 miles over some fantastic fells. Saw one other person all day ( a fell runner on Calf Top near the trig point) Lovely marshalls all the way round and food as we have come to expect from LDWA events.
The organisers were trying to figure out why so few turned up - only 50 which means they will not even break even.
The same organisers for A Amble which gets 350!
Was it because it was Sunday? it used to be Sat, is 8am to early for the start?
    .....
There is a road section in the middle that goes on a bit- but they are looking to change that

Sounds like a lovely race Karen. It is the week before the Fellsman and the 3 Peaks so I guess everyone is saving themselves. Personally I would never do such a long run the week before a big event. Also I've never heard of it so I will bear it in mind for next year.

I did it 3 or 4 years ago and apart from the road bit it is a very good route. I think it clashes with other events that runners might enter but I would have thought it would still attract plenty of walkers?

    Re: LDWA events

I got a note from the LDWA today

"There seems to be a pattern occurring on challenge walks where spray paint is being used to mark parts of the route to presumably help with navigation at night. This is vandalism, may be a criminal offence and not adhering to the Country Code."

I don't do the night navigation ones as they have never appealed to me so I have no experience of this. has anyone else seen it?

Apparently the vandalism was to ancient standing stones down in Devon/Cornwall among other places....http://www.ldwa.org.uk/forum/show_to...tpc=1706&dir=S

I have done plenty and never seen anything like this. Who would be stupid enough to spray paint standing stones I don't know.

I stopped doing Barbondale when they ruled out dogs, Great LDWA offering apart from that though
