Looking forward to having a jog round on Saturday.

Excited and nervous all at once, I used a rucksac last year but have been training with a bumbag and will have drinks deposited at the two drop offs.

Err maybe more nervous thinking about, still hopefully it wont be as cold as when we ran it in Dec (pics in the FRA mag) ....

The old shoe choice is NO clearer looking at this forecast and one or two photos of the peaks this week it's going to be a dry one.

I have entered for the first time so have that mixture of nerves and excitement plus I sometimes wonder what I have signed up for - looking forward to it and weather forecast looks promising. Have all the kit laid out on the spare bed and still toying with which shoes to wear - Speedcross or Roclite 315's. Still trying to work out how to pace it but I think the key for me is not to go out too fast - aiming for a 4hour 15 finish which I hope is achievable - have the added pressure of the family spectating.

SS go to the sport ident site and look up last years splits for a runner doing 4.15. pick those with a slower start and try to follow them. The route I think is faster now due to the new path but don't get carried away at the start. You can run hard or easy up pyg but it will make 2-3 difference there but will cost you dear later on if you over cook it.

    +1

Don't pay any heed to the route card on the PPP website, I don't think it's based on past results at all, I suspect they've just divided the distance by the time to come up with some figures.
Definitely don't get excited going up PYG, you will pay for it when you try and get up Ingleborough.

How much food are you planning on taking?!

5 snack size mars bars for me; one at each drinks station + a spare.

Carrying water is just dead weight; forecast is for 9 deg + light wind so, as long as you're in vest and shorts, you shouldn't need much water. I try and drink two cups full at each water station, seems to do ok.

Re: 3 Peaks Fell Race 2013

Yep agreed with IanDP and AA. I live local and run around various versions of the 3P route several times a year and, if you're looking for a 4:15 finish, I suggest something along the lines of

PyG top: 0 hrs 40 mins
Cattle grid/main road to Ribblehead: 1 hrs 35 mins
Whernside top: 2 hrs 25 mins
Chapel le Dale: 2 hrs 50 mins
Ingleborough top: 3 hrs 30 mins
    Finish: 4 hrs 15 mins

That timing requires fairly good climbing legs on Whernside and running all of the slabbed path to the wall of Ingleborough; if you struggle on climbs, you'll need to run the downhill and/or flat bits quicker

My first time too! Training was going well until 4 weeks ago, injury, illness and kitchen fitting have decimated it!!! Just looking to get around inside the cut offs. Left it too late for shoe choices so its going to be mudclaws for me (road shoes is only other option). Pre race nerves not really kicked in but the self doubt is going to be heavy to carry around!! Man up on the day and hope to get around!!!
