I'll get slated for this but I carry a small knife with me on runs. I got bitten about 3 years ago and it got infected and I was laid up for nearly a month with no earnings.

If I see an aggressive dog, I'm taking it down before it takes me down.

I used to work in a quarantine kennels and got set upon by an Akita.. despite two people wading into it with sticks, boots and a jet hose it refused to let go of my arm. Fortunately I was wearing a very thick quilted jacket. It was only whacking a fast acting sedative into its arse that finally did the job.

Listen to what Hes is saying and lets not rake over all of this again...
Exactly the reason why you need to be armed appropriately.

So I should let it bite me then? What would that achieve?

Sorry, but a dog is just a glorified walking steak. If my steak attacked me, I'd take that down too.

There is no valid logical argument that you can put forward to justify allowing yourself to get bitten.

With your treasured punches and your little knife..... the fells are in good hands.

Quite, as above you could go the 'Dirty Yelsew' route and go for the .44 Magnum. Me I tend to carry a rocket propelled grenade- vaporises the little buggers!
(Don't try it with steak, expensive mistake. The grill will do)

No, just a little penknife. Probably wouldn't kill the meat but it'd incapacitate it for a while, saving other runners in the process.

Not had to use it yet but I would, in self defence, not hesitate in the heat of the action.

Care to answer the question? Should I let it bite me?

Well we are not all Ninjas. I for one need the firepower. I did once,"in the heat of the action", call in a napalm strike as I approached Dowthwaite Head, worked wonders-not a dog in sight!
(ps never do this with steak!)
