Fell shoes are fine for Crib Goch, thats on the north ridge of crib goch

Just stay on the crest.. unless you see a very obvious path, there's a few places you can go lower but generally the rock on the crest is solid and much safer than the choss lower down..

    Re: Vegan Welsh 3000s

Am kicking myself for being so stupid as to injure myself  I'd done training runs up to 18 miles and then a month ago went and did an LDWA 30 miler (actually GPS trace said 32) and ended up with shin splints and a leg that was a huge mass of knots until I had my osteopath friend grind them out of me (much grunting in pain)...

So in the last month I've been mountain biking instead and gradually trying to get more running back in - longest was 9 miles last weekend, followed by 2 hours mountain biking.

Still, am off to N Wales this weekend for a load of rock climbing and will recce the first section of the route on Sunday to get the bit off Crib Goch sussed. Even if I end up walking it still be a worthwhile exercise  I'll be starting from the Rhyd Ddu path up to Snowdon south ridge and finishing in Llanberis Pass, feel free to join me anyone.

Hoping that I recover well enough to do the full event and in some kind of sensible timeframe [says he feeling distinctly sorry for himself :boohoo: ]

Tried to recce the first section yestrday, got up Snowdon from Nant Gwynant via Bwlch Main, wetaher deteriorating the whole time. Got to summit with frozen, sodden hands due to the rain and strong winds and the snow still lying around in patches. Abandoned plan to recce the Bwlch Goch descent due to the conditions, especially as we saw snow remaining on that section (as seen from the A5 when we drove up it in the morning while depositing a vehicle at Nant Peris). Of course by the time we got back down to Nant Peris (via Pen-y-Pass instead of Crib Goch,) we saw the snow had gone - hey ho. Was still a useful recce as haven't done Snowdon from the South before.

I had my leg strapped up with smurf tape and 3 layers of compression which held things together for the 11 mile outing. Good...

Hoping for less vicious conditions in 7 weeks' time !

When will the joining instructions, GPX trace, etc be sent out ?

Sounds like a fun recce. Hoping to get down sometime soon and do the Crib Goch section.

Anyone know how many entrants there are for this ? Hopefully quite a few as I don't want to come last.

    Hi all,
Just back from a successful recce of the Carnedds section and the Glyders/Tryfan. Weather turned bad on the day I'd plumped for a go at Crib Goch, with it raining and the cloud down I wouldn't really have gained anything by going ahead with the recce - other than hypothermia :-) Going to head back on the 18th for Crib Goch, I've placed an order for good weather...

    GPX going out today!!

We've changed the finish due to some logistical issues with car parking so the actual finish is the gate of the beer garden at Ty Gwyn pub in Rowen... plenty of space for folk to chill next to the little rocky river.

    We've ordered good weather!!

What about the rest of us? If there's a recommended route available for the GPS crew, those of us without GPS could do with the same route info.
