My older readers may remember Mr S. Roche, who also had his career wrecked by a knee problem, but it didn't stop the boy going after the money and signing for some rubbish teams because of the £££. But after his "triple" year he did nothing but enhance his bank balance.
So Mr Wiggins: retire as a folk hero? Or a tawdry money grabber?

And of course LeMond had the courage to name Armstrong for the cheat everyone in cycling knew that he was-unlike spineless Wiggins who just kept his head down on his way to the bank.

All true. First of the modern riders and last of the clean winners (apart from Sir B obviously). But still tried to win Paris - Roubaix. Respect. (Disagree about Fignon though he was a doper).

I agree with some aspects but you can rest assured the frogs didn't set out the 2012 route for a British track cyclist to win.
Its the fact that Sir Dave plan the team with precession and they delivered.
I think it will help Froome with the team but I can't see him winning.

Maybe not, unlike the 2012 British Olympic organisers whose first two flat and hill-less designed-for-Wiggo-to-win-the Gold Medal courses were rejected by the Olympic Powers-that-be.
However as a better commentator than me has written: whereas the Giro has always been a proper bike race (and so its organisers have kept going broke) the Tour has always been first and foremost a business: and it suits ASO for foreign riders to win because of the television rights revenues a foreign winner brings.
As for my mate Contador: well he is the outstanding rider of this generation but like any winner he has to have the form at the right time and not fall off his bike.
