When I saw the thread title I was about to start kicking myself for just buying a pair of X-Talons...

I'd be happy with black, green or brown as long as they do the job. I've been happy with my X talons (yellow and black) for a few months but I met someone last night who's X talons have lost their studs after 3 races!

That seems odd.. was it in ice/snow + (eg) stone bridleway? ~ I have known (old) studs to shear off completely, especially 212s in winter.
The studs do wear down a lot (just not that quickly I would have thought), and later on can lose big chunks; I do like using them on rocks though..
New 190 uppers look to have a bit more protection on the weak-spot (the bit that can wear out in one race, if it's a tough/stony long). So I'm torn between stocking up on cheap old models or checking out the new one..
Depends on running styles too.
If you pick your feet up and don't scuff the ground, your going to get less wear and more miles.
Some peoples styles will unfortunately create a lot more wear on the shoes.
Running light and efficiently is my tip for long lasting shoes...![]()
The 2 middle studs in the 2nd row fromt he front on my 212s look like they may not stay attached for much longer after only a few races. Also my Mudrocs and Mudclaws have loose stitching on the outside of the flex-point on the fore-foot.
Thats 2 shoes with a similar fail and a different pair with the sole looking a bit worse for wear all after only a handful of runs each. Not very good IMO
Try this thread on getting a bit of extra life with the failing uppers (no guarantee!).
Have to agree with ukhursty for the studs breaking like that, it depends on how you impact the ground a lot. Also some fast rocky-path terrain can be brutal for any shoes.
Anyone got a collection of people finishing races with their undersole/studs in their hands?! Not Inov-8s though. I can provide one from Buckden if the Tod H concerned doesn't object, and one of the women (can't remember who right now) at Anni Waltz/TWA had to pick hers up, but at least they only came off in the finish field!
To be fair I noticed the damage after buckden in the sole
look to of changed the toe protection rubber bit that tends to peel away (much smaller) I didn't mind the cheese wire laces colour may take a bit of getting used to thow! my studs have always lasted quite well n I tend to use mine on the rockier stuff jura, wasdale, ennerdale n today buttermere hs etc..
