Thread: New safety rules

    RULE 17 CLOTHING
    (1) In all events competitors must wear at least vest and shorts (or
equivalent clothing) which are clean and so designed and worn as not to be
    objectionable, even if wet.

Why is it necessary for clothing to be "clean"? Are we going to have Kim & Aggie on the start-line?

That's an interesting concept. Do they have to pay a race entry fee?

    Harsh. But funny

Poles poked in your face is a lot less funny. To be thorough we'll also need a rule to prevent Norwegians swinging their elbows out dangerously wide, it's just as hazardous. #ruleforeverything :closed:

Official organised racing could just be handed over to the UKA. FRA could continue to represent 'wild' running. Simple, no rules sport adhering to the original precept of individual responsibility. It does not need to be dragged to a more complex posture if it does not want to. It just needs to recognise that it may have to give some things away. Of course, this is left field blue sky thinking and I recognise that FRA will want to keep its racing programme as is. Therefore the rules will have adapt.
You were doing great. Right up until you said "left field blue sky thinking !!! " You've clearly been in that London village for too long!

Well you fell for that one, didn't you?

Rule 17 Clothing is a UKA general rule. Generally ignored by most runners and organisers and absolutely nothing to do with the proposed FRA safety rules.

We all know how much the weather can change and how quickly someone could become cold if they had to retire.
Which IMO means the rules aren't strict enough, in winter a space blanket should be mandatory on M / Ls. If you're wet and running, then need to walk a few miles in the rain due to a twisted ankle, a space blanket under your waterproofs would be a godsend, instead they're toughening up the rules about folding numbers.

Ahh, I've been Punk'd...nice. I have opted for self moderation in order to avoid further embarrassment. Many thanks.

We are in much more complicated times unfortunately
Good point well made Ian. We have a balance to strike.
