Manher you must have been very near me at gable, I was the young-ish runner in boots.
Enjoyed the race up until Scafell Pike, made it in about 2h15 which I though was OK.
Then really struggled on the scree, picked myself up on the corridor, but tried to get up Great Gable too fast and was exhausted (after slowing down a lot) by the time I hit the summit. I still had 50 mins so should have made it to Honister, instead though I had a 15 min break instead of keeping just behind the group I was with and then ended up going way off to the west. Realised I was wrong I tailed off and headed towards the quarry and eventually hit Honister 25 mins late. Not even close! The marshalls had already gone by that point. So in total I spend 1h 20 getting down. Looking back it was the easiest part of the course.

Few lessons learnt for next year I guess - sort out my gear properly, wearing boots made it a lot harder for me (I speedcross but really didn't like them and looking for something different now), also I traveled up by train from Mcr that morning leaving before 6:00am. Also a mistake, should have stayed over and tried to conserve energy. Finally didn't drink nearly enough, but tbh I'm slightly scared of refilling from streams so tend to go without. What do people use iodine tablets? or any use one of these UV bottles? Have been looking into buying one.

Most of the streams are fine. High up is better. Less chance of dead sheep, animals and stuff washed off the land contaminating it. I would rather risk any stream than risk dehydration though.

Agree on both counts. Must feel great to finish after giving it a few goes. I'm sure some of the applause was coming your way!

Very glad to see that Manhar made it after his previous toils. It was my first time yesterday and first Lakeland race, I enjoyed the race and day itself immensely and it is sure to be the first of many. Many many thanks to all involved

Yes, yes, yes still have that warm afterglow from yesterdays race where the legs may ache but you know everything is ok with the world this morning. Must admit being one of the backmarkers on the way to Bessyboot was wondering if I'd post another Dnf & maybe me & Borrowdalw just wasn't meant to be.wink:
Well done for putting that one to bed Manhar. I've been to Borrowdale once, and was timed out at Honister.... Unfinished business since... I am sure you feel great. Well done again

Whilst having had a winge about the difficulty of reading race numbers ( on another thread re safety rules ) due to some of them being folded ridiculously small and placed in stupid places whilst marshalling on Bessyboot yesterday I was heartened by the number of runners who thanked us for marshalling as they passed through.

What a great race! Thanks to all the marshals, helpers, organisers, and runners (and all the tolerant and encouraging walkers too). Will be back next and every year if possible.

    ....and well done Manhar!

Perfect weather for the old Alfer yesterday, none of that Wasdale heatwave nonsense

    Well done again Manhar

Thanks to Scoffer and all his marshalls and helpers and sponsors for the 40th running of Borrowdale
