Bought the new 212's and noticed the tread is the same depth as the 265's mudclaw! gotta ask why bother with the 265, less grip than the 300's, same as talons but heavier? (190) and a single arrow.
and in my opinion talons grip better on rock.
Whilst I get on well with the 265's I've just got hold of a pair of new Talons for predominantly racing, but quicker training too. We'll see how they compare as suggested above, or not. Up until now the 265's have proved well up to the job I require of them.Originally Posted by Woodzy

I plumped for the new 212s as well. I was tempted by the 265s for the extra grip to help my descending, but glad I didn't go for them after reading this thread.
The main disappointment with the 212s is that I thought the laces were being changed. I was looking forward to not having to battle with the cheese wires anymore, but not to worry. That's only a small thing.
(Plus, Inov8 do get a bit of stick sometimes, and I'm not the biggest fan of everything they do, but my old 212s were great. No complaints at all, except the laces.)

I've got two summer seasons on my pair 212's and they are still going. Hard to say how much use, but somewhere up towards 1000 km. Great on peat and in mud and pretty good on wet rock (not great, but what really is). I do not see any real gain in trading for the 195; 20 g less in exchange for an upper that will not last long, and I find the 6 mm drop works well for me. Anyway, not to hijack this thread away from the Mudclaw, but in off-trail or in muddy conditions I have found the 212s to be the best all-rounder.
Looking at the new 212s the other day I could not see any obvious differences in the sole or in the construction itself, but with some difference in the material of the upper. I miss the original colour though. One good bog run should dull the colours down a bit.
1st run today at langdale in my new 212's and a pb. so far so good don't feel as supple / thin in the sole as the old style though that might change as I wear em in. better grip than the 265's! imo
