If you're pushed for reccy time, concentrate on the route from the trough checkpoint to Houndkirk Hill then onwards to the Fell Gate, these come late in the race and the field are well spread out by then. Sometimes you can lose touch with the runner in front here.

Just after CP10, the bridge at Houndkirk Road, you'd assume that you need to follow the green path (on the OS map) but there's a sheep trod to your right, soon after you turn at C10. The trod is a much more direct route to the fell gate. Keep an eye out for that, some people miss it and end up going the long way round.

The route from the Oxstones to the next checkpoint can be hard to find if you're reccying on your own, but on race day you can safely follow the crowd.
I had a bit of a recce today. Going by my performance it'll be me that's last! :-)

Question: What's the "best" route onto and, more importantly, off Houndkirk Hill? I missed the path onto it today (but can see it on Google Earth). However, not too sure of best way forward after making the hill.

Any suggestions?
