    Follow the traditional race distance categorys of short, medium, long....and then through a "Longer" league in for those running very far and LWDAs.

    Far too long winded though really isnt it.

    Looking at my 6 "counting" events for 2013:

    Apr - Kinder Downfall - Medium
    May - Vanessa Chappell - Medium (course lengthened from usual Short 5.6M to 6.2M!)
    Jul - Macc Forest - Short/Dubious Traily Imposter!
    Aug - Salt Cellar - Medium
    Sep - Lantern Pike - Short
    Nov - Famous Grouse - Short

    I averaged just over 50 points on the above Short/Mediums

    I took part in a few "longer" events (Hebden, Haworth Hobble, Old Crown Round, Long Tour Of Bradwell, Bullock Smithy) and got nowhere near as many points

    I think we've done this sketch:
    there are no "soft" events where it's "easy" to get points, it's just that everybody is different in what they're best at

    That's probably right, although I'd be astounded if I actually were to beat dantodman in a race. Mind you, I haven't worked out who you are yet Dan! I'll be searching the results in the Hebden for anyone called Dan, but I should think he'll be miles ahead of me.

    The thing is, this championship only works if we don't take it seriously. That suits me fine! As long as we're all just claiming points for the runs we were going to do anyway, it's just a bit of fun. As soon as anyone really starts caring about beating other people (in the champs, I mean, not individual races), then it stops making sense. And if anyone starts picking their races just to maximise champ points they're missing the point aren't they? After all, there are plenty of "real" competitions out there if you want them.

    About a new scoring system, as long as it's easy to apply and understand, I'd be happy with anything. It all adds to the spice of a year's racing.

    What would be the distinction between the premiership and the championship divisions though? On my day I can just about hit the bottom end of the top 25% in a fell race and my race points (when I actually do fell races ) are destined to usually be in the high 70's. That would safely place me bottom of the premiership but maybe I'd be considered a bit of a hustler in the championship? I've sort of lost interest in it all to be honest because it's, well, kind of pointless.

    Oh and is it too late to claim 78 for the Frostbite 30 in December Daz?

    For example using my rough (as yet unrefined) scoring system, the top of the table would look something like this. In fact the middle of the table and the bottom would look similar and everyone would be running to try and perform better than their last outing

    I feel the same. It's just a bit of fun to me and I'm not bothered how it is worked out.

    Stolly - what would be to stop somebody declaring a particularly poor race for January, then carefully picking a race result each month that was as little improvement as possible each month thereafter? I'm pretty sure I could look back at my race results and pick up +1 every month...
