Happy with my time of 3:00:45, would have been nice to get under 3 but still a big PB. There's always next year!
Nice to meet you too, finishing a paltry amount over 3hrs is known in Horsforth Harriers patois as "doing a Raby" after one erstwhile club mate who completed London in 3hrs 6seconds! At least your certificate will say 3hrs though

For the record, I race it too as do most fell runners I know (although not all). Although for me the challenge is the time more than the position. There's no need to split hairs, it is what it is. We all get out of it what we want.

Them Adidas didn't slow you down much then? What was your finish time?

On a map it looks straightforward but the ground is saturated at the top whereas the cowpers cross route is a decent fast path. Although clearly not fast enough!

I did 2:54 so you weren't far behind at all. Good run. The XT 4 were fine. A bit slippery going up the Chevin and on the icy slabs but not many shoes would have gripped well on those!

That's true enough, I had Mudclaws on and still couldn't get any purchase going up the dib. Them slabs were awful, need ice skates for them! Well done anyway, I gather you've waited a couple of years to win it...

This was a heavily photographed event, what with SportSunday, the Woodentops and you, Jez (I'll see if I can find yours on fb when I get home). I took some as well as I bimbled my way round:

I hope the girl who cut her knee is alright. She retired at the Whetstone Gate CP as I was taking shelter to put my gloves on. Those flagstones are lethal. They have caused injuries every year since they appeared, with trips and slips. I go so carefully along them they provide a long breather opportunity in readiness for hitting it hard again along the LHS of the wall.

One of my club mates gashed his leg quite badly (well it looked bad) on those slabs. One day someone will need the air ambulance up there, even in relatively decent weather they're lethal. Only a matter of time before someone splits their head open.

I run alongside mostly but some bits (at least on Rombalds) you sort of have no choice. I used to love the unpredictable bog track that was there before. One day I'll recce it properly and find a better route out through the heather.

    A great day .
You know Wooj, that sounds like my missus Helen. I wouldn't feel too bad about it, she finishes in front of me all the time!
