    CHRIS MAPS THE RACE ROUTE

Chris Goddard is a local runner and friend of Heptonstall Fell Race; he was out with us this weekend researching the race route; next step will be a hand drawn map with illustrations, historical notes, and sketches; the map should be ready for 29th March. Chris's new book "The West Yorkshire Moors" has become an essential read for all fell runners; mapping the hidden trods rather than the OS paths, this excellent guide is full of Wainwright style sketches and gloriously obscure historical contexts.

Well done Chris on your feature in today's Yorkshire Evening Post….

Apologies for being a bit out the loop of late (baby Edward is keeping me busy at home)

Quite a few of you have been struggling to find the new 2014 Heptonstall Fell Race website – the old one died last year.

We’re only 2 weeks away from race day now, so here is the link the new site – www.heptonstallfellrace.wordpress.com

The new site has all you need to plan ahead for the race, maps/route description, rules, parking, and previous results.

We’re expecting another massive turnout (over 200) for this 15 mile classic – the vicar has his sermon prepared, and the local pubs have organised a 3 day beer festival with over 30 real ales, on extended serving areas, all laid on to coincide with the race; there’ll be something for saints and sinners alike. All runners get free soup, bread, and cakes back at the pub, with live music and a BBQ later in the evening (taking advantage of a Saturday rather than usual Sunday slot). You might want to consider who your nominated driver should be, or arrive by bike….

As usual ALL funds from the race will be going to Mytholmroyd Scouts, Calder Valley Search and Rescue, and the local Church renovation appeal.

Our backers this year are THE CROSS INN, ALPINE OUTDOORS, and SLIGHLY FOXED BREWERY

We’re hoping for another top class field; Adam Osbourne of Leeds AC won last year in 1.58.20, but CVFR's Ben Mounsey still holds the course record of 1.55.49; Helen Fines still holds the women’s record of 2:18:05 (2011). What are the odds on new records in 2014??

This race is organised by a combination of CVFR and Tod Harriers based around the village,it’s taken months of planning and should be another corker.

Heptonstall is already buzzing with anticipation – looking forward to seeing you all on the cobbles!

TRIG (on behalf of the Heptonstall race organisers)

Thanks for putting the details up Trig. Hoping my the scrapes on my knees are healed enough to have a decent stab at this again in a couple of weeks.

Don't forget that Calder Valley Search & Rescue Team will performing random kit checks before the race on Saturday.

Alpine Outdoors (Hebden Bridge) are supportingHeptonstall Fell Race, providing race numbers and START/FINISH banners; if you need and gear on or ahead of the day its worth checking them out at https://www.alpineoutdoors.co.uk/.
