Strava will sort you out, but basically yes.

FWIW the Smartphone app is the best way to use STrava IMO (the instant gratification), but I don't always like to use my phone for that as it drains the battery.
Thanks for that. I agree the app is really good. The only downsides are that you can't take it on races (not that that matters that much) and it's a bit of a faff putting it in your bumbag. Quite like the idea of a Garmin for doing reps as well.

(You could take your phone on a race I suppose, but would rather not if don't need to.)

    Red face

So to be clear (I was waiting to start an exam so apologies for my brief reply), your Garmin won't do anything fancy like a wireless data transfer, you will need to get it on to your computer using a cable to get it either straight in to Strava, or upload to Garmin Connect and then download from there on to your computer to re-import to Strava.

    Therefore -

    1) Connect Garmin to computer with Cable
    2) Upload route to Connect
    3) Go to Strava
    4) Upload Activity via 'Search for device' (will require installing a plug-in and the garmin to be connected to your computer)

    Variations -
    1) Don't bother with step 2.
    2) Download the file to your computer then browse to it from STrava - this negates the need for the plugin
    3)
    a) Upload to Garmin connect via bluetooth to iphone
    b) Login to Connect
    c) download file from connect to computer
    d) Upload file to Strava from desktop

Variation 3 is only really any use for Forerunner 220 via an iPhone if you don't happen to have a cable with you (which is partly why I was going to buy the 620 as it works over Wi-Fi) but suddenly became less of a data geek. Also Android isn't supported so this really is only use to 220 iphone users

Thanks for that. I'm terrible with these things, but sure my other half could sort it.

Got an iphone and it was the 220 I was considering so should be ok.

    Thanks again.

Thats Ok, sadly the latest hardware releases from Gramin do seem several steps behind in terms of convergence, but maybe with some upgrades on the software they'll get there. If you expect to continue to need to use the cable on to your computer you won't be disappointed.

Reminds me of a story a pal told me about a guy suggesting a willy-measuring competition. Needless to say the guy who suggested the contest won . . .

Just happened to notice on the Strava Kilian Jornet Climbing Challenge
UK 4,561 members, USA 6,726 members. I would have assumed the difference would be more in keeping with the the relative size of the populations. Obviously the Yanks are not into climbing hills as much as us!

Look at the 10k race challenge, over 10k Brits in it, less than 8k yanks. I think what this probably reflects is the UKs huge market for this kind of tech and mass participation in sport, whereas in the US it will be more limited to the east and west coasts?
