I think my pal missed the race due to traffic from the crash. Heard 3 air ambulances were involved?
I hope everyone involved is OK, I did a sort of prayer for them!

I was about 20 cars back and called 999. The emergency services were there almost instantly so I'm sure they already knew. The guy on the phone said to stay well away given that there were flames. It was a shocking sight

I made the decision to turn back after being sat in gridlock on a rat run back road until half ten
Managed to soften the blow with a run up Pen Y Ghent on the way home though so not a wasted day!

Sounds like a good recovery plan. I ended up detouring via Caldbeck and just about made it. The start was delayed by about 15 mins to accommodate some latecomers.
