Anyway "no". An episode or two back I asked myself, as I often do, "is this how you wish to spend the next hour of your life?" rather than reading, say, The Goldfinch (Donna Tartt)- which has just won a Pulitzer Prize- or a massive new book illustrating every painting by Thomas Eakins, and the answer was "no".
So there we are (and I think Donna Tartt is overrated).
What's the famous Donna Tartt? Secret History? I read that and liked it

The Secret History (1992) had a sensational, page-turning start. A brilliant novel.
Tartt then wrote The Little Friend (2002) which was long and odd. Again it had a strong start but maybe 100 pages from the end one felt she had got bored or needed to meet a publishing deadline or something... and the finish was incidents crashing into each other in relatively few pages (in a Tartt novel "few" can mean 100 pages).
The Goldfinch (after the famous Fabritius painting) is not about a goldfinch or even the painting which is merely a MacGuffin on which to hang the story (after Alfred Hitchcock)- but it's a good enough story with lots of interesting characters. And another very explosive (ha!) opening.

Not as vulgar as that opening, and a better written book.
The Cumbria/Yorkshire/Borders history programmes are available again, wonder if anyone else cares?!

I found the "blood eagle" a bit disappointing. Ragnau looked more like his dresser than his executioner
It will be interesting to see how they work Ivarr the Boneless into future episodes, how will the poor chap get around ?
