Just because some runners may have other priorities than fellrunning throughout the year shouldn't make them less worthy of being in the team.

Yes the courses were the same as for the Europeans, there was a suggestion of moving the first descent off the rocky path, but as the trust are keen to protect the regenerating heather, I stuck to the path. Can't think of anything else, other than the conditions, that could have changed.
Oh and for any junior women reading this - humble apologies from the ambulance driver who got the vehicle stuck across the course - reverse gear could not be found and there were five people giving differing advice as you approached at high speed! Good job you could all squeeze behind it and carry on.

Sounds a strange thing to say. You might take an interest? Because four real fell runners are in the team? What the eck makes a real fell runner? A bum bag? No hair? Doing fell races all year round? Having a whistle? I can't for the ife of me think what the term a real fell runner refers to. Was Norman, Stuart et al real fell runners becuase lets face it, both ran very quick marathons as well.

The first "Fellrunner of the Year", which preceded the British Championship, was Dave Cannon (Kendal). He was renowned for his "reckless descents".

I am not sure if the Ben Nevis is a "real" fell race but he won it 5 times.

He said " My best race was winning the 1976 Ben Nevis (described at the time as in a "phenomenal record" time). It was my 5th win there, yet for 3 years I'd run on the road".

And your credentials Dux de lux?

You posted it in all seriousness, dont start back tracking now. Just off to pack my bumbag for my forth coming road marathon. (Hopefully it will make me a real fell runner. I might also down five pints of real ale as well. Sterotyping.)

All I meant was that I personally will take more interest as there are people I see quite often at races and a couple of whom I know to talk to in the team this year.

I uhmed and ahed about the 'proper' as I knew it would get a reaction as exactly happened (perhaps it was a bit naughty!!). Hell I have a huge respect for anyone good enough to run in the World Trophy, I dont think anyone is less worthy than anyone else - fell runner or not. I was really referring to my level of interest this year.

Whilst we are kind of on the subject. Roadrunner, as an endurance athlete who excels on road, XC and the fells I am interested to know what makes you decide to go for the European Mountain Running Champs or World Trophy? (like this year Europeans but not going for World Trophy) Is it only if it fits in with your road running plans or if the course is likely to suit you?
