That's what I'm trying, along with standing on one leg, icing and Voltarol - as recommended by the physio who has been pinching and ultrasounding it once a week (for 3 weeks so far). It is improving, but I can't say which treatment is making it improve or that it's because I've eased off running.

All the advice I've been given is along the lines of "it'll take longer than you expect" - so trying to be patient.

Have a look at the article on pages 90 and 91 in the October 2006 issue of the Fellrunner

    Re: Stiff achilles

I started to have Achille pain in 2000, gradually getting worse. Stretching, strentghening, massage, ESWT, did not help much. I had an operation almost 7 months ago and am about to start jogging incredibly short and slowly only now. No idea if it will get better, and if yes how long it will take.

Rest as much as needed not to have pain.

    Re: Stiff achilles

As the days go by I'm not convinced it is my achilles tendon. It is difficult to pinpoint the exact spot but the discomfort seems to be around the ankle bones and frontal joint of foot. I think I may have stretched some ligaments around this area. It is not preventing me from running and I am going to race this Wednesday so I will see how it goes then......

Voltarol Emulgel P - cures all injuries, broken limbs and chronic tendonitis!

No idea what it does but it really helped my sore achillies.

I don't want any traces of illegal substances in me for Helwith Bridge, I might get disqualified!!

Thanks for that - did scan the article back then, but it wasn't as relevant. Denise's advice is pretty similar to that of my physio.

I don't think Voltarol has much effect - but I'm prepared to risk the drugs ban! (don't think there's much risk of me being tested on usual form let alone current form)

    Re: Stiff achilles

I've just read that Achillestendon.com web site and it sounds to me like I may have tendinonis of my right Achilles - its definitely sore first thing and when doing that thumb/finger pinch. It doesn't get in the way of my running right now but its really starting to annoy me. Interestingly I've not long come off of a 2 week course of antibiotics which, from the web site, can themselves help bring on the tendinosis.

Probably like many of you guys, what with this and a dodgy left knee (that likes to click) I've resigned myself to never really being fully fit. I do seem to give myself a miracle cure every time I put on my running shoes and get out and about but increasingly hobble about between runs

my knees have also clicked for years and nowadays i cannot put my weight on them on a hard floor like kneeling down. The pain is unbearable if i do that its just like something sharp is digging into my knee, it does it with both. Not seeked any advice about it but its def got worse this last 5 years, doesnt hurt when running but kneeling is awful
