Just the half in Edinburgh, then got some longer stuff over the summer ( Lochalsh Dirty 30, Lairig Ghru, Speyside Way ) then maybe a late autumn marathon though not decided yet.

I'd argue against that advice Iain, with all respect, you obviously train like a MF and hats off to you for that sir With a background of 90+ miles a week, of course running a half will be ok for you, similar in case to that of Andi Jones doing a marathon run the weekend before, you are conditioned to the max after a long background of high high mileage.
But for someone with much less of a high mileage and experience distance running on the roads, i'd say it would likely be of great deteriment to their chances doing a 10mile or half marathon race the weekend before.

Well gents the deed is done I cracked the sub 3 hour Marathon just, at my second attempt, well done to Ian Povey off here who did a PB at the race too.

For the record my training for the 3 weeks before a one week taper were 66 miles 61 miles 50 miles finishing with a 10 mile race pace run the Sunday before the race, it worked for me.

    Thanks for all the advice.

Well done Rob I see you cracked the sub 3 too, were you running behind the sub 3 pacer? He came along side me with less than 1k to go and I thought bloody hell best get my finger out and changed up a gear.

    Tahr,

The pacers caught me at about 23m and I followed them till the edge of the racecourse where I overtook to finish just in front of them. Great race, but I found it hard going. Happy to finish, I think the last 6-7 miles were all hanging on to be honest. Not sure why exactly but I'm happy enough with the result.

Interestingly, I went through 20m at exactly the same time as my fastest training run at that distance!

We must have been running together or close for most of the race, I was in a black and yellow vest there were to other guys with me with the same colour vests but they run for a different club, I was the old bugger.

Looking at splits, I went faster from 10k to halfway and then you caught me up and overtook me near the end. Probably when the pacers turned up. I thought I was in better shape so I speeded up earlier to try for a 2:55ish but obviously couldn't manage it.
