Only if you analyse the scalar quantites in the beat.
If the music is too complex then you may need to factor in some vector values and move into the frequency and time-space domain.

Have you read the fella from Chic's book Wheeze? Brilliant; and interestingly he recounts around the time of the "Disco Sucks" movement he was astounded by some peoples reaction to his band's music. He thought he was playing rock and roll. Everything from Ella and Louis, Marvin Gaye, Howling Wolf, the Beatles . . . it was all rock and roll to him
