Made a massive hash of this last year in the fog and snow on my own at the back. Thought I was doing well as the footprints were going my way then completely lost them on the route I had planned (taking a direct bearing to where Grindslow Knoll path joins the kinder edge path- not recommended) . Its my third year of recceing this and only now is Kinder revealing its secrets. That's the greatest thing about this race so much route choice. Like others I would recommended a linear recce from Crowden to Edale- logistically a bit difficult to organise but well worth it. Before that everyone goes pretty much the same route and not much choice.

I now have a tried and tested preferred crossing of Kinder from Kinder Gates to Grindslow Knoll that only involves one Xmas tree.
It is also a bonus that it is one of the Xmas trees that is planted in the ground, and not one of the many that are in peat pots that Glossop / Pennine / Dark Peak runners keep moving about the plateau during the run-up to this race.

I was up in the Lawrence Edge / Wildboar Clough area last week and discovered yet another crafty trod that I hadn't stumbled on before, despite numerous recces over the years. That's one of the beauties of Bleaklow and Kinder, there is always something new to learn on most outings.

Aiming to recce the route from Crowden - Edale (or, quite possibly, in reverse of this) on the last weekend of Novembet. If anyone fancies joining me, get in touch.

Also keen to get the ball rolling with liftshare (linear route & my partner doesn't drive...) - if anyone is keen to meet at Edale early on race day & share lift up to Marsden, please get in touch

Yes, that's one useful tree! It did occur to me it had been planted specifically for this purpose-is that the case?
