Ben I wear my fell shoes all the time regardless (Inov8 265's) so I'm probably a poor judge of whether trail shoes will be better or not. That said if its dry for a week or so leading up to the race, trail shoes will be good to go I'm sure

If it's ddry from now to race, I can tell you that the problem is blisters. It gets very dry and dusty in parts and it gets in your shoes.
The driest of the 6 races I have done, I finished with a blister that put me out for 3 weeks.

So if it is dry, slap some vaseline on your soles of your feet and between the toes.

1st year i did it in Mudrocs, 2nd year Wave Harriers. Neither my preferred racing shoe but I preferred the Mudrocs because of the downhill benefits.

This year I'll be using X Talons because they're my favourite running shoes. Its only a few miles on tarmac and I find them ok on that and everything else. For the muckier, more technical stuff they're good too, granted not as good as Mudclaws in mud, but for the majority of conditions they're fine. Although for this race what you've got in your tank is far more important than what you have on your feet.

Words of wisdom. My feet have generally been ok whatever I've been wearing, but the tank has often been well and truly empty.

You can have water and food dropped off at Ribblehead and The Hill Inn - put it in a bag with your race number on it. I think there are also water tubs at both locations.

Check link - see under Registration Information.
It's feasible to tape a gel or something to your bottle as well.

When you get to Ribblehead, you will see them set out in grids in number order.

Ran round parts of the course today and it's not far off bone dry, back up there Sunday for a final long run and it'll be in road shoes. No advantage for the fell or trail shoe in these conditions, it's amazing just how quick that course dries out.

I've worn Inov-8 Roclite for the last 5 years & they have been a Jack of all trades. Coped with everything, even the road section. And I've never had a blister!
