well after a few more support legs and a hell of a lot of training it was back to it this weekend gone on a low key attempt self support for most of it we had a good leg 1 good conditions then it was terrible got up clough head the weather had changed from good to disastrous I think we had everthing this leg including getting very nearly struck by lightning took the wrong way of seat sandal if there was a trod here would be nice got on leg 3 maybe 25 min down did climb up met 2 fantastic people who helped nav leg 3 dave + tash but leg 3 was difficult in them conditions when we got to the end of this leg we knew we had been in the ring the weather had brightened up mark who I left moot hall with said he had enough by now I had,nt after having some food we had 6.50 to get to moothall we were 2.30 hr down but I was prepared to give it a go made time back on yewbarrow pushed hard over this leg sustaining some nasty knocks in the process body was trashed I was,nt making any time back by the end so called it: fresh I would of carried on 2 hr to do leg 5 would,nt of been enough time this was not my original date so I will be still doing it on this date which is 8 /9 august but clockwise if anyone is available for support let me know roy

Sounds like you had a hard day of it. Just for your next attempt, there IS a trod more or directly from the summit - just head due W (ish) from the summit until you hit that big cairn, the trod leads down the fell directly from here. It's a it indistinct at first but it develops and is hard to miss really. I know this because I followed it faithfuly on Saturday morning on a JNC support!

    That's correct.
I think some (I've done it) head off the summit to the right of a rocky area to be on grass. This means you are to the right of the trod, it is then easy to cross it and end up on the left of it (at night anyway) and carry on too far left. Off the summit you just need to head to a rocky area ahead on a slight plateau then, as said, it develops into a good track (these days anyway) all the way down.

I found it not a problem on a reccied a month ago but on Saturday we were 2/3 of the way down before picking it up. I knew we were probably very close to it for much of the way down.

Sorry Roy - I'm not around that weekend in August; hope you get a good crack at it.

    Hi again Roy
Hope you don't mind me suggesting, but it may be worth your while starting your support search on a new thread with the correct intended date as the thread title. The 'July 13' heading means most people won't look at it any further. I already had one call from someone thinking I was having another go at the Ramsey!
    Cheers ... and good luck.

We just managed to find the trod. Think there was a little bit of luck involved though. I don't know if this picture will show on here but it's from my open tracker file track. image.jpg

Hello Roy, good effort last weekend, and it's to your credit that you got stuck in on leg 4 and gave it good go after a tough leg 3. I can do leg 4 again on your August attempt. How's the support looking?
