There is an "infrastructure" issue but no goverment has the balls to really tackle it by encouraging more dense housing, energy conservation, and force people to use public transport/ more sustainable means of travel. I may be wrong but making the country poorer will only make the problem worse not better.

In my own little town, that is on the edge of the Peak District National Park, a new housing development is just being finished. They are all detatched, it is utter madness.

Written by a trEU Remainer and believer in the cause

The huge flaw in the process is a Remain PM (and poor calibre PM at that) with a Remain Cabinet and Govt, in a Remain Parliament and a Remain Civil Service.

Every step of the way they have approached the process with reluctance, and as an exercise in damage limitation, and that's being kind.

Being unkind, they've largely lied to us. You can all find on youtube etc the various montages of MPs, some ministers and opposition MPs who were giving it "we are all leaving now" when they had every intention of slithering towards a grater BRINO and eventually Revoke and Remain with every concession they eked out of the PM.

There is a way to go in the process yet though.

This is by no ways a done deal.

Corbyn may not want the betrayal mud sticking to him and refuse to play ball, after all, he can probably have May's head and General Election with a little patience.

If Corbyn does play ball, the DUP will remove support, some backbenchers will do likewise and the Govt may get the Withdrawal Agreement through, but they will soon after fall.

We may see resignations, there's been one already today.

    Lots still to happen.

That is over simplifying it. Manchester has a greater PD than Settle. But you aren't advocating putting an industrial estate up Malham are you?

Travs was correct. We cannot keep chasing GDP growth. It's just turnover, it isn't profit. Somewhere quality of life, environment, balance... and the whole country is under pressure.

I’ll agree on the growth. Quality of life has to be the objective.

On visits back to Sheffield via Manchester I frequently find myself wondering “what the ****” at the sheer volume of people, traffic, overpaid crap footballers etc.

Taking the UK as a whole is extremely misleading. Scotland is fairly sparsely populated. England particularly in the south east is very densely populated.

And again, taking Scotland as a whole is misleading. As most live in the compact area of the central belt. Those empty bits are empty for a reason. Any major immigration will almost certainly be based in a small area. There’s only so many jobs available in Lochinver.

Actually, what is the difference between the south east and the Liverpool/Manchester area?

Should Briton get to 12 April without having agreed a Brexit deal, and the EU refuses an extension, then Brits would prefer to...
    44% - Leave without a deal
42% - Remain in the EU
    13% - Don't Know

YouGov Poll 2/4/19 done before the PMs announcement in the evening. I suspect the 44% might be a little higher now.

What is the source of those numbers?
I have just been on the yougov site.

This is March 1st. It can't have changed that much in 4 weeks.
