Still carrying a sore upper thigh/hip, physio tomorrow. Went out for an easy run 11km/800m Sunday, but that's been it since last Monday.
It does ease off after a while, half hour or so. Doesn't affect climbing but my already crap descending is suffering. Racing (in theory) on Sunday so the plan is to rest it completely until then to give it the best chance, though that means I'm going into it on almost no running for two weeks.
Luckily, 600mg Ibuprofen is over the counter in Spain

First club session for a few weeks last night...

Track session... 8 x 500m with 90seconds rest... was a slightly more relaxed session than usual, as quite a few are racing tonight, and the torrential rain meant it was more a case of just get out there and get something done. So an ideal comeback session for me.

Total of 7 miles, of which 2.5 were effort.

I’ve been talked into racing for the club on Sunday.... a track 3000metres! Have never raced on the track before so will be interesting.... there was also the opportunity to do the 3000 steeplechase but I turned that down as I don’t really want to end up face down in the water jump...

Wet weather session, ie in Gym!
Stepper. 45 mins and 253 floors climbed which I think is about 2530 feet. very hot and sweaty.

Physio confirmed it's not in the joint - phew - but tendonitis in the upper quad insertion (rectus femoris strain). So resting til Sunday then necking some Ibuprofen is about the only option I have. Kineso tape any good for this?

Nice one Simon... that kind of session is indeed hot and sweaty. I’m planning something pretty similar tonight...

Did a very steady 4 miles 1050ft recovery run this morning.

Face down in the water is perfectly normal in a fell race, but it looks really silly on the track.

My above mentioned stair-climber session topped out at 50 minutes and 3400ft.

Kept it steady and consistent, rather than my usual tactic of putting in some hard intervals. Still an incredibly hot and sweaty session.... partly due to it being my 6th session of the week, but probably more to do with the Chicken Jalfrezi I’d had two hours before.

Tomorrow’s plan is to hit double figures in slower, steadier, and flatter miles.

Today went as planned. 16 miles 1300ft, all steady except for perhaps a couple of miles where I ran hard to stretch the legs out.

Already hit 40 miles/10000ft for the week, so everything else will be a “bonus”.....

A very tough treadmill hill session this morning.... 3150ft in an hour.

That’s my last toughie of the week, just a few steady miles now to get fresh for Sunday’s 3000m.

May also have to run a leg in the 4 x 400m relay, approx half hour after finishing the 3000....

I was asked if I wouldn’t mind chucking a javelin but I turned that one down straight away!

Track race today in the Midland League. 3000m.

10:48 and 8th out of 9. Didn’t know what to expect, having never done a track race before. Did the first 200m in about 37secs (which I think is around 9:15 pace!) but luckily there was a clock at the finish line so I quickly corrected this.

On the final three laps I knew 10:50-10:55 was in the bag barring a disaster, and it was just a case of what I could do to get under that.

What interested me most is that 10:48 is bang on 18mins pace for 5km, which is my Parkrun target for the end of the year. So I’ve got to hold that kind of pace for a further 2km.

Capped off a good week of training... 53 miles and 14500ft.
