I'm not sure if this vaccine is going to be any good to be honest.

Neither does the Government it seems.

"The MHRA urgently seeks an Artificial Intelligence (AI) software tool to process the expected high volume of Covid-19 vaccine Adverse Drug Reaction (ADRs) and ensure that no details from the ADRs’ reaction text are missed."

    They are inviting tenders.

Agree. Sadly, the Government, despite some half-hearted efforts, and of course the bloomin' media, have let giddy anticipation get the better of them and spin out of control. If this doesn't work out there's going to be lots of stroppy kidults whinging and nasty finger pointing.

I do wonder (cynical Mossdog!)if the Government have let the over zealous hype get this far so that they can dangle the reward of a vaccine 'any time soon' to excuse an extension of lockdown (although it'll be rebranded as something else after 2 December) for 3 months or more. Afterall, even if the vaccine is shown to be successful it'll mean some form of lockdown (well, using the government's/SAGE's debatable mindset at least)to get enough people vaccinated, which I guess will take well over a year.

Keep looking for the negative WP . You’re going to be so disappointed if the vaccine works and saves millions of lives in the process

(I thought they’d already contracted a firm to do that anyway and that they have no reason to expect a high volume of adverse reactions either. But you know it’s common sense to plan for such an eventuality just in case)

The whole point of the proposed system is to find and confirm causality between ADE (Adverse Drug Events) and a Covid-19 vaccine. Many ADE may well have no direct or relevant link to the vaccine, but be caused by other factors. Volume of data does NOT imply failure of a vaccine. Conversely, without a system, which can process all the data, serious issues (ADR) due to the vaccine may go undetected until it is too late. The pertinent section in the MHRA tender:
"Strictly necessary — it is not possible to retrofit the MHRA’s legacy systems to handle the volume of ADRs that will be generated by a Covid-19 vaccine. Therefore, if the MHRA does not implement the AI tool, it will be unable to process these ADRs effectively. This will hinder its ability to rapidly identify any potential safety issues with the Covid-19 vaccine and represents a direct threat to patient life and public health." Notice use of the word POTENTIAL.
All vaccines under development will go through the same procedure.

So that sounds to me as though it's a good thing, not a bad thing, then. Has that put your mind at rest, WP? If not, there's also this:

    https://www.healthcareitnews.com/new...e-side-effects

An MHRA spokesperson told Healthcare IT News: “Based on the available published reports from the Phase I/II trials, we do not currently anticipate any specific safety concerns with COVID-19 vaccines, and we expect the general safety profile to be similar to other types of vaccine.

    [...]

“A COVID-19 vaccine will only be deployed once it has been proven to be safe and effective through robust clinical trials and approved for use by the appropriate licensing authority.

So if anyone thinks that all this sounds as though the MHRA thinks that the vaccine won't be any good - you're wrong!

I'm so positve Stolly that i think we can proceed without a vacinne.

Do you know what price NICE currently put on a year of life? I think we've blown that one out of the water. Would we be better spending all this money we don't have on expanding availability of proton cancer therapy for example?
