First time I've run in the rain for a long time; and first time wearing a base layer on a run this Autumn. Route was Buck Hill and the Outwoods, a bit slower than last time due to the ground conditions.

    3 x 2km reps, 3mins rests.

    7:40
    7:25
    7:35

A bit all over the place. Got involved in a bit of a race on the middle rep, then on the final rep I was running alone and struggled to maintain it.

Good hard session though. 11 miles in total.

Last nights RATRun was from The Church Inn, Chelmorton. It had stopped raining when the five of us set off at 6.30pm and was the first time this autumn that headtorches were required from the start.

Uphill from the start into the mist and murk on Pillwell Lane where the headtorch light was reflected back and allowing only a few yards vision. Very atmospheric and I love being out in such conditions. Down to and across the A6 to Blackwell and then a steep, slippery, narrow path down to the River Wye. Over the footbridge in front of Blackwell Cottages and then steeply up, again on a narrow path but this time through nettles and brambles. An airy traverse above Wye Dale before a steep drop down to the river again and back over it and the A6. Steeply up the other side to the hamlet of King Sterndale.

A short section of tarmac and then over fields and into Back Dale where we turned right up the delightful Horseshoe Dale to the road. Left across more fields, across a road and then up to Chelmorton via a series of walled lanes.

7 miles, 1,197 feet in 1 hr 18 mins. It was great fun to be running in the dark again but I was the one slowing us down as the legs and lungs were not happy on the ascents. It was also slow going on the descents due to the wet limestone. Around 3 miles of the run was on paths new to me and I look forward to returning in daylight.

Once back at the Church Inn cheesy chips were washed down with Moonshine 4.3% from Abbeydale Brewery and Blonde Bear 4.2% from Little Critters both of which are brewed in Sheffield.

    Outwoods hill reps: timings were 2:37, 2:37, 2:37, 2:39, 2:40, 2:42. I don't think I've ever been so consistent before.

Only 150ft of ascent on each one, as compared to Travs' 550ft on Hallin Fell. Anyway, it's good to see that Travs has found a suitable location for his forthcoming assault on Tom Hollins' recent Vertical Marathon record.

13 miles at around 7:20/mile on a soaking morning.

70 miles for the week. Not bad considering i expected nothing from the week due to work commitments.

Next week, looks like i'm kicking off the XC season with the Masters Relays on saturday (3km leg), so will put all my efforts into a good session on tuesday night.

I did the Masters Relays XC in 2017. A fast flat course around football fields from what I remember. Not my cup of tea and not XC in my opinion.

As you do a lot of fast speed work Travs, you should go well. Good luck.

Ah yes, so you did, a respectable 12:05.... i also ran in 2017, as well as 2018.

Agreed its not full on XC terrain, but it can be windy out on that long straight, and it always seems to be freezing there!

Best time of 11:22, i'd hope to go a little quicker than that but not really sure what shape i'm in for such a short one.... but it is a good warmup for the decidedly tougher league fixtures.

Club night and a 25 minute continuous hill effort.

Hard work tonight, pushed hard by a girl just in front, and being chased down by a guy behind, and was approx 100 metres quicker than last time we did this session, with an average of 3:54/km

10 miles for the evening, with an easy 4 miles AM. A solid start to the week with 28 miles down, although the daily average will lower a bit now with Saturday's race looming.
