13.5 very easy miles completed the week, with a final score of 76.5 miles.

A pleasing week... 2 fell races this year and 2 pb's.

Next race is a fortnight away (5000m track race), so can concentrate on training. Tuesday night is 300mtr reps on the track, i think we're doing a conditioning session on thursday, so planning a decent paced long run on saturday. Need to start getting them in ready for the Y3P.

After 80 minutes on the phone to B*****ys Bank, followed by some computer hardware problems, I had to get out for a run to maintain some semblance of sanity. Buck Hill and the Outwoods: it felt surprisingly fast for a run just three days after a race, although the time taken tells another story.

Club night was a bit of a non-starter for me last night.

Was supposed to be 15 x 300mtrs on the track, with 100mtr jog recoveries.

But the track was rapidly icing up as we arrived, and after attempting the first rep and it resembling the start of a speed-skating race, we abandoned it and went out to do the session on the road.

Due to the cold weather the session was changed to only 20secs rests.

My legs couldn't live with the intensity after saturday's very hard race effort, and i bailed out after 10 very lacklustre reps with my hamstrings screaming at me.

But got 9 miles in for the session, on top of 7 easy AM miles, so a good day.

Thursday we've got a strength/conditioning session rather than hard intervals, which will allow my legs more recovery, and hopefully the plan is still on for a quality long run on saturday.

Last nights RATRun was from The Manners Hotel in Bakewell. Five of us set off into the snow across the showground, the golf course and up through the woods to Calton Pastures. The snow was around six to eight inches deep with higher drifts causing us to take it turns to break the trail through the virgin snow. Down to Edensor via Maud's Plantation and past a herd of resting deer. Up through the village and on to Ball Cross. Steeply down to the Monsal Trail at Pineapple House Farm. Along the trail to the golf course and back to the Manners.

After getting changed under their large gazebo we found out that they were shutting at 8pm so we decamped to the nearby Rutland Hotel. It is now very smart after a massive and expensive refurbishment. No chips available as the chef had been sent home due to the snow. Bags of crisps were washed down with Lord Marples 4.2% from the Thornbridge Brewery.

We run a kitty on our RATRuns and on going to pay I was informed that they don't accept cash. I was more than happy to leave my details for them to send me a bill but it was sorted by younger members who can pay on their phone! This is the second establishment that I have been caught out by them not accepting cash. Staff at both have pointed to a tiny sign located at the other end of the bar to where I was served stating the no cash rule. They shall not have the pleasure of my patronage again.

Overall a strength sapping nearly 7 miles, 1,015 feet in 1hr 9 min.

Whichever of my muscles/groups that are used in shovelling snow, they have all had a good 2hr workout this afternoon.

15 miles today, 12 at just about 7 minute mile pace, and 3 slower miles to finish off.

As i passed under a bridge on the canal i squeezed past two guys, and a few seconds later realised one of them was running after me.... not sure if i was about to be the victim of an attempted mugging, i turned round and this African guy just smiled and said "good, good".... clearly just fancied a run...

Fair play to him, i was fairly shifting by this point, and he stayed with me for a good mile, before bending over double and shouted "thank you" at me between gasps for breath.

    Top fella.

Due to a couple of factors, i have moved to a new gym... this one is a bit more plush, with pool/sauna/steam room, and i spent 3hrs there this morning training and enjoying the facilities.

Still had time to get 11 very easy miles in today, bringing the weekly final score to 77.5 miles.

10 weeks into the year and weekly average is down on last year, currently at 63mpw, although this has been a result of a couple of very slack weeks due to non-running issues.

Next week is a 5km track race on sunday. Planning to train through and just give it a go and see what shape i'm in... i don't feel on pb form but you never know.... although of slightly more concern is being fresh for club sessions on tuesday and thursday.

Club night last night in the pouring rain.

    2 x 1 mile, with 1 mile jog recovery.

    5:30
    rest mile 8:30
    5:36

Despite dropping a bit of time on the 2nd mile i was very pleased. 5:30 was a significant pb on that loop (previous best 5:39), and i pushed hard for it. So despite suffering on the 2nd rep, it was still quicker than i'd gone before.

11.5 miles for the session, on top of a steady 5 miles AM.

Unfortunately at some point last night my big toe went through the front of my shoe. I noticed a bit of pain, but on getting home i realised my foot was covered in blood and i'd rubbed most of the skin off the front of my toe...

First concern is i'm not going to be in shape to do tomorrow's track session due to the pain i'm in currently in bare feet, let alone trying to get a shoe on over it.... although the main issue is will i still be able to race on sunday.... of slightly less concern currently is my lightweight £100+ shoes now have a huge hole in them after less than 100 miles!!

I use f-lites, never had that problem, and they weigh about as much as a talon.
