I know the theory, but I was really badly co-ordinated when I started off yesterday. I was making a loud footfall too, but it's hard/impossible to run on your toes (my preferred technique) at 8min 44sec/mile pace

It's hard to articulate this, but when I put my foot down it wasn't where it used to be - or where my brain thought it should be. I'm not sure you can really appreciate what it's like until you've experienced it (which you hopefully won't. Ever.)

I know that the brain does a lot of post-processing (for want of the correct medical term) after runs which should lead to better technique and efficiency in the future. I am therefore now looking at more runs, at very short distance so I can improve my technique - which can't be difficult from where I am at the moment!

Like you, the last thing I want to do is high mileage. In my case until I learn to land well, and not announce my approach from 400m away, the runs are going to be very short.

On the plus side, I've had no ill effects apart from a strained achilles tendon - almost certainly from trying to run on the front of my foot at nearly 9min/mile pace - after a lay off of nearly 4 years.

Yesterday evenings RATRun was from The Greyhound Inn, Warslow. Five us of set off on a cool and sunny evening in the opposite direction to the fell race route and up onto a more remote part of Staffordshire Moorlands.

An oblong shaped route taking in the three TP's of Revidge, Merryton Low and Hill House, all giving fantastic views especially of the Roaches from Merryton Low. A mixture of terrain but mainly farmland and moorland trods.

A total of 10 miles, 1'450 feet in 1hr 43 mins. Back in the Greyhound we were too late for chips so Kettle Crisp's were washed down with Land of Hops and Glory 3.8% from Front Row Brewing and Greyhound Gold 4% from Beartown Brewery.
Visibility good except in Hill Fog

I have made an uneasy truce with my right Achilles tendon. I can do a run every three days with a reasonable level of effort (nothing extreme like reps), and it won't retaliate too severely. Today's run up Beacon Hill via Buck Hill was reasonably brisk, and there is only mild discomfort now. But I've entered a local trail race for next Friday evening, so I hope that won't end too badly. Indeed, hope springs eternal: I've just booked two nights in a Lake District Youth Hostel for later in the Summer. I'm not saying which race this is for, as that would definitely jinx it; but you would be right in supposing that it is not Buttermere Horseshoe or Wasdale.

I'll enter the sweepstake and guess you're going for Buttermere Sailbeck......

That would be a good choice. There is no finer medium race anywhere on this planet.

    Or indeed any other planet.

I did it.... unfortunately it was during the covid restrictions.... so i ran it individually using a timed app, and also it was zero visibility.

So i didn't get the ideal Sailbeck experience!

Is there a missing planet between the second and third planets, Graham?

1.75 miles, 65ft of ascent 😁 in 15 mins, surprising how tired I was after it but still good to be back at it

Agreed - there is no better AM and one that punches way above it's weight.

Of course you could take "later in the summer" to have two meaning. Later than now or late summer. So if the latter then I'd go for the LDMT as it's based at Eskdale* YHA this year (and I don't count September as Autumn until after the equinox!)

    * ...and not Edale as originally posted!
